REPORT: HOSPITAL VISIT AT SAINT LUKE HOSPITAL
St. Luke's International Hospital (財団法人 聖路加国際病院?) is a general and
teaching hospital located in the Tsukiji district ofChūō, Tokyo, Japan.
First opened in 1902, as a medical mission facility by the Episcopal Church in the United States, the hospital is now one of central Tokyo's largest and most comprehensive medical care facilities.
St. Luke’s International Hospital was first accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) in July 2012, and after undergoing a re-accreditation survey in July 2015, accreditation has been renewed. Re-accreditation applies to all 5 previously accredited facilities, namely, St. Luke’s International Hospital, St. Luke’s Affiliated Clinic and Center for Preventive Medicine, St. Luke’s Birth Clinic, St. Luke’s Home Care Service Station, and St. Luke’s MediLocus.
St. Luke’s basic Objectives of the Hospital Management specify, “To ensure quality medical care, we practice ‘evidence-based medicine’” (item 2), and “To fulfill our role as an international hospital, we prepare to accept patients from abroad” (item 7). We believe that JCI accreditation is also an essential way of guaranteeing to our patients from abroad that the medical service we provide satisfies international standards.
We diligently strive to continuously improve
the quality of our medical care and promote the highest level of safety concerning all aspects of this hospital, in awareness and anticipation of medical and social changes, while we maintain and develop the provision of healthcare that meets JCI standards.
Objectives of the Hospital Management
1. To ensure collaboration with patients,
we take into consideration patients' values in clinical decisions.
2. To ensure quality medical care, we practice "evidence-based medicine."
3. To provide holistic medicine, we coordinate the expertise of the whole hospital staff.
4. To contribute to the community in medical and nursing care, public health, and welfare, we collaborate with local doctors and institutions.
5. To raise the quality of medical care, nationally and internationally, we continue professional development in all health related fields.
7. To fulfill our role as an international hospital, we prepare to accept patients from abroad.
8. To continuously meet the above objectives, we keep the hospital financially healthy.
