Glass Fibre Posts as Esthetic Restoration– Nina Farahana Saleha Bt. Ab.

ABSTRACT
Fibre posts were introduced around two decades ago with the promise of
having similar modulus of elasticity of dentin, which were not present in rigid cast
metal posts. With cast metal post, teeth were at risk of root fracture due to being
highly rigid and possibility of corrosion. Carbon fibre posts, eventhough had
successfully overco
me the problem of rigidity, still weren’t able to restore teeth
esthetically.
Glass fibre post were then introduced along with other tooth-coloured posts,
enablin dentists to create a more pleasant and natural-looking esthetic restoration.
In comparison to other type of posts, glass fibre posts were found to have higher
flexural strength, allowing better distribution of stress along the tooth structure,
and highly resistant to fracture. In cases of failure, conditions were favourable and
the tooth can be restore again. Glass fibre posts were able to bond to any
composite material and cheaper since it can be completed in one visit. In cases of
retreatment, removal of post was easier.
