RUSSELL N. NEWELL
Russell Newell is the Director of Executive and Corporate Communications for Disney|ABC Television Group at the Walt Disney Company.
Prior to joining Disney, Newell served as the Senior Media Advisor for the spokesman for Multi-National Forces-Iraq for 14 months in Baghdad. In this role Newell provided strategic communications counsel to U.S. leadership to communicate policy and mission during a critical time in Iraq's history.
Newell has also served as a speechwriter for four Cabinet secretaries and Jeb Bush, former Governor of Florida. It was as Governor Bush's chief speechwriter during an event for National Missing Children's Day that he first conceived of writing about a kidnapped child and a parent's tormented reaction.
Newell grew up in Massachusetts and is married with a young son.

If you're looking for engaging, suspenseful reading this summer, definitely consider "The Boy and the Bastard". You won't be disappointed!
It's the story of a little boy who's kidnapped from the streets of suburban Boston in the late 1970's. His father, a successful investor at the top of his game, is devastated by the disappearance of his son and becomes consumed with finding him. As the story unfolds, it's an open question whether the father's search is more for the lost boy or an attempt to find his true self again.
The plot line is definitely captivating with lots of twists and turns and surprises right up until the end. I wasn't able to put it down and ended up staying up late to read the second half all in one sitting! The story is also entertaining because of the author's careful attention to detail throughout the book. It's a story complete with references to late 70's culture and places throughout eastern Massachusetts. It's definitely a fun read.

Amazing book! The author Russell Newell, does a great job with his first novel, “The Boy and the Bastard” and pulls you in from page one! With alternating points of view, amazing use of tension and drama, strong three dimensional characters and beautiful use of descriptive words, this thriller will leave you on the edge of your seat, frantically turning pages asking yourself, “What happens next?” It’s a great father and son story where they become separated and we participate in their journeys through the depths of despair and discovery. One of the best aspects of this book is that the writing is so eloquently descriptive that you feel like you're watching the film version in your head while reading. Look forward to more from this author and I am sure this one will hit the big screens soon!
