ABSTRAK
Kertas karya ini berjudul “The Description of New House Opening Ceremony of
Simalungun Ethnic”. Upacara memasuki rumah baru merupakan salah satu kebiasaan
masyarakat simalungun, kebiasaan ini dianggap juga sebagai suatu acara adat yang resmi pada
budaya simalungun dimana orang yang telah membangun sebuah rumah harus dilakukan acara
adat yaitu memasuki rumah baru. Orang yang memasuki rumah baru ini adalah orang yang sudah
resmi menikah dan mengetahui apa itu pengertian adat. Fungsi dari memasuki rumah baru ini
adalah supaya orang yang memasuki rumah baru mendapatkan rejeki, jauh dari segala masalah
dan sebagai rasa syukur terhadap Tuhan karena atas berkat-Nya lah rumah tersebut dapat
dibangun. Masyarakat simalungun juga percaya bahwa fungsi dari memasuki rumah baru ini
adalah untuk mengusir roh-roh jahat supaya tidak mengganggu penghuni rumah baru tersebut
serta menunjukkan rasa bahagia bahwa orang yang memasuki rumah baru tersebut berhasil atau
sukses karena dapat membangun rumah sendiri. Pada kertas karya ini, metode yang digunakan
oleh penulis adalah baca, catat, dan deskripsi.

ABSTRACT
This paper entitled “The description of New House Opening Ceremony of Simalungun
Ethnic”. The new house opening ceremony is one of the habitation in the Simalungun society,
this custom also considered as a formal tradition in the Simalungun culture where the person
who has built a house must do a custom that is new house opening ceremony. The person
opening this new house is a person who has been officially married and knows what is customary
understanding. The function of the new house opening ceremony is so that the people opening
the new house get fortune, away from all the troubles and as gratitude to God because of His
blessing that the house can be built. Simalungun people also believe that the function of new
house opening ceremony is to chase away the wicked evil so that can’t disturb the people who
stay in the new house and to show a sense of happiness that the person who pervades the new
house is succesfull because they can build their own house. The methods which used in doing
this paper are reading, writing and describing.
