ABSTRAK
Skripsi ini berjudul “The Analysis of Material Culture and Social Culture in ‘The Windows’ by Norman Ince, Translated From ‘Jendela- Jendela’ by Fira Basuki.” Penelitian ini menganalisis penerapan prosedur penerjemahan dalam menerjemahkan istilah budaya material dan istilah budaya sosial dalam bahasa sumber (Indonesia) ke dalam bahasa target (Inggris). Teori yang digunakan adalah teori Peter Newmark (1988) yaitu prosedur penerjemahan yang terdiri dari transferensi, naturalisasi, persamaan budaya, persamaan fungsi, deskripsi ekuivalen, modulasi, label penerjemahan, kompensasi, analisis komponen, reduksi dan ekspansi, parafrase, sinonimi, kouplet, dan penambahan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan mendeskripsikan prosedur penerjemahan yang diterapkan dalam menerjemahkan kedua istilah tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil penelitaina, ditemukan 73 istilah yang terdiri dari 34 istilah budaya material dan 39 istilah budaya sosial. Sinonimi adalah prosedur yang paling dominan yang diterapkan dalam menerjemahkan istilah budaya material dan deskripsi ekuivalen adalah prosedur yang paling banyak diterapkan dalam menerjemahkan istilah budaya sosial.
ABSTRACT
The thesis entitled “The Analysis of Material Culture and Social Culture in ‘The Windows’ by Norman Ince, Translated From ‘Jendela- Jendela’ by Fira Basuki.” This research is an analysis of translation procedures which ciold be applied in translating material culture and social culture terms in source language (Indonesian) into target language (English). The theory that is applied is Peter Newmark’s theory (1988) that is elaborated the translation procedures which consist of transference, naturalization, cultural equivalent, functional equivalent, descriptive equivalent, modulation, translation label, componential analysis, reduction and expansion, parapharse, adaptation, synonymy, couplets, and addition. This research is applying descriptive qualitative method by giving description of the translation procedures in translating those terms. Based on the research, there are found 34 terms of material culture and 39 terms of social culture. Synonymy is the most dominant procedure which is applied in translating material culture meanwhile descriptive equivalent is the most dominant procedures which is applied in translating social culture.
