About the topic/technology
The National CAD Standard coordinates the efforts of the building design and construction industry by classifying electronic building design data consistently, allowing streamlined communication among owners and design and construction project teams. This will result in reducing costs associated with developing and maintaining individual office standards and transferring building data from CAD applications to facility management applications. The Facility Information Council, a council of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), formed the National CAD Standards Project Committee to develop the standard. The National CAD Standard includes the CAD Layer Guidelines, published by the American Institute of Architects.
