INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP
Climate Information Services
In Supporting Mitigation and Adaptation To Climate Change
In Energy and Water Sectors
Indonesia Government commitments to follow up the UNFCCC Conference of Parties decisions (COP-13 in Bali, December 2007 and COP-14 in Poland, December 2008), has been elaborated in a National Action Plan on Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change. In this regards, Meteorological Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has important roles in providing services on waether and climate information in Indonesia to support adaptation and mitigation actions carried out by several sectors.
Energy and water resources sectors are vulnerable sectors to climate change impacts. They need weather and climate information services for effective planning and operational activities. The energy sector needs weather and climate information for various activities such as the operational of hydropower electricity generator, bio-energy crop cultivation, the use of renewable energy resources such as wind turbine and solar cell. The water resources also need sufficient weather and climate information. Excessive water usage for any interest may reduce the water quality. Land–use, land–cover changes and changes of rainfall pattern over certain region in certain level may cause extreme events such as flood, landslide and drought.
We kindly invite you to attend :
