AU competes at RPI, E8 Championships; Clemens and Karczewski named all-conference 10/21/07

TROY, NY- The Alfred University men's and women's cross country teams competed Saturday, Oct. 20, at the RPI Invitational meet. The AU women, ranked eighth in New York State and 10th in the NCAA Atlantic Region, finished sixth of 20 teams competing, while the AU men were 12th of 20.McKenzie Clemens (Lowville, NY/Lowville), a sophomore on the Alfred women's team, was named a First Team Empire 8 Conference all-star, while Matt

Karczewski (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan), a senior on the AU men's team, was named a Second Team conference all- star.All-Empire 8 selections are determined using the performance of runners from Empire 8 schools at the RPI meet.

The top seven runners are named First Team all-stars; those placing eighth through 14th are named to the Second Team.Clemens, last year's Empire 8 Women's Rookie of the Year, placed 19th overall and sixth among Empire 8 runners at the RPI meet, completing the 5-kilometer course in 18:48.84. Classmates Megan McKee (Rush, NY/Rush Henrietta) and Megan Crimmins (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) placed 31st (19:20.60) and 41st (19:35.58),

respectively.Karczewski placed 34th overall and 12th among Empire 8 runners, finishing the 8-kilometer course in 26:49.67. Senior Travis Swan (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) was 59th in 27:16.97.The AU cross country teams are in action next on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championship meet in Saratoga, NY.
