i
am pleased to report that 2006 was another in a series of watershed years for FFA, its 500,000 members and the schools and communities in which it serves. Through your commitment, we were able to raise more than $12 million for the National FFA Foundation, ensuring that the good work of FFA will continue to grow. This is an extraordinary achievement, and my personal thanks to all of you who worked so hard for such a good cause. Our slogan for 2006, Serving Through Your Contributions, was borrowed from the FFA Motto – Learning to Do; Doing to Learn; Earning to Live; Living to Serve. It represents the type of service that many of us are most capable of providing today; but more than that, it represents our ongoing willingness to serve in any way we can.
These are the attributes being taught every day to young people through FFA and agricultural education, and they are what differentiate the impressive young people of FFA.
Success like this year’s campaign requires a visionary and committed group of people to drive to a new record level of contributions, and I am privileged to have been a part of that team, the 2006 National FFA Foundation Sponsors’ Board and the unmatched FFA Foundation staff. My personal thanks go out to all of you for your time, energy and dedication to FFA and the work of the foundation.
American agriculture is again facing a new era as traditional food and fiber production makes room for renewable fuel in a changing world. In addition, the expansion of agricultural education and FFA programs to a whole new range of subjects and career opportunities is opening doors for more students than ever before. The mission of FFA and the impact of educational programs built on “… developing the potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success …” are now more important than ever. We should all take great pride in the work we are doing to support this opportunity.
Thank you again for your support and for your ongoing belief in the value FFA brings to today’s world.

In 2006, FFA embarked on a new adventure – moving the 79th National FFA Convention to Indianapolis, Ind. Known as “The Crossroads of America,” Indianapolis is conveniently located in the nation’s heartland and provides a perfect venue for the 54,489 members, advisors, parents and other guests who attended this grand event.
Indianapolis is only the third site for the National FFA Convention. In 1928, the first convention was held in Kansas City, Mo., and it remained the sole venue for the next 70 years.
From 1999 through 2005, the honor belonged to Louisville, Ky., and now Indianapolis will host the convention for seven years.
FFA IN INdy – A MovINg ExpErIENCE!
Elanco Animal Health believes that the No. 1 need for agriculture today is strong leadership and individuals who possess outstanding leadership qualities. We believe that the National FFA Organization is exemplary in building students who think critically, have a high level of integrity, possess a strong work ethic and are honest team players with strong leadership skills. Elanco is pleased to have been supporting FFA for more than 25 years and helping to ensure the development of tomorrow’s leaders.”

Agricultural Education’s Long-Range Goal,“10 x 15”
T
oday, agricultural education is at a crossroads. The need of American agriculture to secure a highly educated, talented and motivated workforce has never been greater, while the pressure to hold public schools accountable for academic achievement in math and sciences has never been more intense. Agricultural education faces twin challenges to improve both the quality of our programs and thenumber of students and communities they serve. The goal of
“10 x 15” as embraced by each sector of our profession is clear:
By 2015, there will be in operation 10,000 quality agricultural science education programs serving students through an integrated model of classroom/laboratory instruction, experiential learning, and leadership and personal skill development. Further, all students will be members of FFA and have a supervised agricultural experience that supports classroom and laboratory instruction.
Working under direction of The National Council for Agricultural Education, the “10 x 15” Management Team has articulated eight strategic themes and identified eight high-priority initiatives.
Those themes are:
1. Program Standards for Agricultural Education 2. Link Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Content
Standards to National Academic Content Standards 3. Develop Multiple Agricultural Education Designs 4. Program Data Reporting
5. Agricultural Educator Recruitment 6. Agricultural Education Advocacy Strategy 7. Agricultural Education Brand Strategy 8. Program Funding Strategy
These themes represent a manageable body of work that can yield the greatest results in carrying agricultural education successfully into the future. The National FFA Foundation will play a pivotal role in identifying and securing the resources that will allow agricultural education to meet the needs of the agricultural industry and the students necessary to fill the industry needs.

Collegiate International Experience There are many reasons that
Merial has continued to sponsor FFA for the past 39 years. We have always been impressed by FFA’s capability to develop young people by getting them involved in career-related activities and by teaching leadership skills. To that regard, LifeKnowledge® is a natural extension of what FFA has always promoted, but with the added benefit that it is an all-encompassing program that offers educational and leadership opportunities to the entire student population in agricultural education.
We are excited to be a continuing partner of FFA and LifeKnowledge, and even more excited about where this program will take agricultural education and the young people enrolled in it for the future.”
Mike Eade, Executive Director of Sales Merial
“
The National FFA Day of Service was introduced as a new feature to the 2006 National FFA Convention. Four Indianapolis sites (Gleaners Food Bank, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Habitat for Humanity and Indianapolis Parks & Recreation) were selected for FFA members to participate in a community service project. Each service activity offered a unique project aimed at improving a part of the community while creating an educational experience for participating FFA members. More than 800 FFA members, advisors and alumni provided nearly 3,000 hours of community service.
Vital to the success of this event was support from Timberland PRO and Toyota. In addition to a significant financial contribution, Timberland provided in-kind support, including staff time from key personnel. The
Timberland Social Enterprise team provided experience and knowledge that proved to be very useful in planning and launching the Day of Service.
An innovative partnership was launched between central Indiana Toyota dealerships and seven central Indiana FFA chapters.
These partners worked together to raise the awareness and need for food donations to community food banks. In three weeks, these unique partners worked together and collected nearly 5,000 pounds of canned food and other nonperishable items.
Stewart Whitney
Vice President and General Manager Timberland PRO
“
The Timberland Company believes ‘Doing Well and Doing Good’is essential to its success.”
By sponsoring the Day of Service at the Washington Leadership Conferences and National Convention, Timberland PRO is helping to make an impact in the Washington, D.C., and Indianapolis communities, and is also helping to provide the tools for the students to make an impact in their local community.

General Convention Support UPS is proud to support the FFA and its activities. FFA values the same beliefs that UPS does, like honesty, integrity, hard work, education and faith. Values matter on the job and in everyday life. At UPS, we believe in giving back to our communities in which we work and live. We believe that in order for UPS to grow, the communities we serve need to be economically and socially healthy. FFA is certainly part of creating those values and the vision for economically and socially healthy communities for the future.”
Bob Severson, Vice President and COO UPS Indiana District
When it comes to sponsoring the FFA, it’s all in the people.
The Intervet team is comprised of individuals who represent the highest level of quality and integrity, just like the young adults in the FFA. The caliber and quality of young adults at last year’s FFA convention restored my confidence in today’s youth and the future of agriculture.
Intervet looks forward to sponsoring and working with the FFA now and into the future.”

We appreciate all that the FFA program does to help prepare our youth for leadership in agriculture and other areas of society. Many of our employees have held leadership roles within the FFA organization.
Their experience has prepared them well for the positions they hold within our company and in the community. Investing in the FFA is an easy decision that we make with confidence and a smile.”
