Plants from Belgium and Holland have been
theonly ones
affectedup
until last year,but
inNovember,
1919,the same
species
was found on
plantsshipped
infrom Japan. Though
thespecies
appears
tobe common
in these countries itapparently has been
leftundescribed, and because
of itsfrequency on im- ported
plants itwas thought
best to describeand
figure it here.The
insect isnot abundant on
the host,only four
or fivepupa
cases
being found
to a leaf,nor does
itseem
tobe
injurious at this time.The
specieswas
first intercepted in thiscountry by Inspector
Francis\Vendle
in Philadelphia,October
15, 1910,and
inNovem-
ber
of thesame year
itwas found on imported
plants inWash-
ington,

through; submarginal area lighter in color than the rest of the dorsum.Margin
finelycrenulate and evenly rounded at the apex, with sutures extendingmesad
from each tooth 0.016mm. The
thoracic trachealcomb
consists of six small teeth, the caudalcomb
of nine teeth. Both the caudal and trachealcombs
aremade up
ofunchitinizedanduncolored teethand appearasindented portions of the margin with very small marginal teeth.Dorsum
unmarked, withtwo
small setae on the thorax; abdominal segments distinct. Vasiformorifice elongate, cordatein shape, the caudalfloorof the orifice crossedwith folds of the orifice
membrane;
operculum sub-cordate, fillingone-halfof the orifice, caudal margin blunt androunded, cephalic margin straight; lingula, projectingbeyond theoperculum, setose, bi-lobccl andwithone pair of setae arising atthe margin ofthe caudallobe; cephalad and lateradof theorifice are found two smallsetae.A
pair of setae, 0.64mm.
in length, is found caudad of the vasiform orificeand
on either side of the caudal tracheal comb.Adult female. Color of
body
light yellow with legs and antennae lighterin color, wings immaculate, eyes dark brown. Length of
body
from vertexto tip ofgenitaha 0.99
