specimens^of recent _large

mammals

received by the Biological Survey from ^Charles Sheldon, ^of

New

York, ^is an incomplete ^{skull of a fossil} bison,

which

seemsreferable toBison occidentalis. It

was

found by Indians^{in the cut}

banks

of a small creek

which

enters the Pelly River

some

twelve miles above_Selkirk,

Yukon

_Territory.

The

nasals, rostral region, palate,

and

teeth are missing,but the cranium,orbit,

and

liorn cores arewell pre- served.

Measurements

ofthehorncores areas follows: Vertical diame-

ter, 105; transverse diameter, 10"); circumferenceat base, 312; lengthen uppercurve, 22o; lengthonlowercurvi', 2S.t; extentfrom_tij)to_tip,660.

The

_lengthof thehorncoresis rather less than inprevious sijecimens^re- ferredtotliisspecies, butotherwisenoserious discrepancies appear.
