Examples

of Bison occidentalis areasyetsorarein collections that an additionaloneisperhapsworthy of record.

Among some

specimensof recent large

mammals

received by the Biological Survey from Charles Sheldon, of

New

York, is an incomplete skull of a fossil bison,

which

seemsreferable toBison occidentalis. It

was

found by Indiansin the cut

banks

of a small creek

which

enters the Pelly River

some

twelve miles aboveSelkirk,

Yukon

Territory.

The

nasals, rostral region, palate,

and

teeth are missing,but the cranium,orbit,

and

liorn cores arewell pre- served.

Measurements

ofthehorncores areas follows: Vertical diame-

ter, 105; transverse diameter, 10"); circumferenceat base, 312; lengthen uppercurve, 22o; lengthonlowercurvi', 2S.t; extentfromtij)totip,660.

The

lengthof thehorncoresis rather less than inprevious sijecimensre- ferredtotliisspecies, butotherwisenoserious discrepancies appear.
