ABSTRACT

Nursyafni Ayu Sidiq, 2021. The Relationship Between Students’ Listening Strategies and Their Listening Achievement at the Eleventh Grade at SMA Negeri 5 Barru. A thesis of English Education Department Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Supervised by Andi Tenri Ampa and Uyunnasirah Hambali.

The main objective of this study was to determine the relationship between listening students‟ strategies and their listening achievement at the eleventh grade.This research was applied descriptive quantitative approach and conducted at SMA Negeri 5 Barru, in the academic year 2020/2021. Respondents in this study were 34 students of class XI. The data were obtained by used questionaire and listening test.

The result of this study show that the score of all students was 73.84 and In the 2020/2021 academic year, there was a significant correlation between the teacher's listening techniques and the listening achievement of the eleventh grade student at SMAN 5 BARRU. There was a significant relationship between teacher metacognitive strategies and student listening achievement. It was scored in, and there was a high correlation between teacher cognitive methods and student listening achievement. It was also scored in, and there was a strong correlation between teacher socio-affective strategies and student listening achievement. The results revealed a positive and significant relationship between listening self- efficacy and metacognitive awareness of listening strategies in general. Further, listening self-efficacy was found to be significantly and positively related to planning-evaluation. As higher self-efficacy brings about more control over listening tasks and guarantees successful strategies. listening strategies would improve students listening achievement.
