Less nutrition is one of the main nutritional problems in Indonesia and East Java.
Less Energy Protein is suffered in toddler groups because children are individuals who are still vulnerable to all diseases. The prevalence of malnutrition in Indonesia in 2013 is 13.9% (Riskesdas, 2013). Less nutrition in children will inhibit the growth and development of the brain and lower body resistance. The imbalance of nutritional intake between energy and protein causes the nutrients the body needs is not sufficient, so the need for health education. Health education positively affects knowledge and behavior.
With good behavior and knowledge of nutrition will have an impact on the intake of energy and good protein. One of them can be done with nutritional counseling. The purpose of research is to know the difference of knowledge level, consumption level (energy and protein) and weight gain before and after nutrition counseling in Karangwidoro Village, Dau District, Malang Regency.
This type of research is pre experiment using one group pre-test and post-test design. This research was conducted in January - February 2018 which is located in Karangwidoro Village, Dau District, Malang Regency. The samples in this study were all children under five who fulfilled the inclusion requirement of 10 children.
The results showed that there were positive differences before and after nutrition counseling, namely the increase of the average knowledge level increased by 30.5%, the energy and protein consumption level by 25.4% and 27.4%. Based on statistical analysis of Paired T-test at 95% confidence level there was a significant difference between knowledge and weight level (p = 0,000), whereas there was no significant difference of energy consumption level (p = 0,15) and protein consumption level = 0.66), this is because the toddler diet can’t change with research that is only observed within a period of three weeks. So it is advisable to need nutritional counseling regularly and repeatedly in a long time.
