The equipping phase will become a critical component to facilitate a reassessment of the participants' practice of self-control in the final phase of the project. First, each of the participants who attended the third module also completed a personal self-control improvement strategy based on the knowledge gained in the course. Although the objective of biblical self-control is manifested through thoughts and deeds, the practice begins with the inner state of the heart. The nature of self-control relies on the combined efforts of the individual and the Holy Spirit. The way forward to overcoming enslaving sins lies within the maturation of the virtue of self-control.
A pioneer in those circles, James Allen, admits that “the body is the servant of the mind. The ability to desire what God values is the dynamic that strikes at the heart of the struggle for self-control. Calvin's teaching exemplifies the practice of spiritual disciplines as a means of cultivating self-control.
Prior to the start of the course, the SCLT met to develop the escape groups.
Examine Yourself
The release form for Agreement to participate was also reviewed and discussed during the course introduction. Although participants had the option of signing the release form, due to the sensitivity of the level of personal disclosure shared during the Renewal Service, it was recommended that each participant use a personal pen, known only to them, to sign the release form to complete. Instructions were provided to the participants on how to obtain their co-workers' perception of the participants.
This response, called the Associate Self-Control Survey (ASCS), was a subset of the SAIS, containing only questions Q21-Q45, which totaled twenty-four questions. Before completing the SAIS, each participant was asked to sign the Participation Agreement by creating a personal pin. The Associate ASCS Form was returned to the participant in a sealed envelope that was provided with the form.
In addition to the three individuals selected by the participants, an ASCS was also provided if there was a desire to request feedback from one of the regular RMLs. A key focus of Lesson 2 was the presentation of a composite report that gathered responses from the SCI completed by the participant and contributions from colleagues selected to provide feedback. Both SAIS and ASCS used a modified Likert scale, ie. a six-point scale instead of the traditional five-point scale.
Another key result from this lesson was the introduction of the Blindspot form.6 Each participant reviewed their compiled report to identify questions where feedback from their colleagues deviated from their answer by two or more points on the scale. The Blindspot form contained six columns corresponding to lesson 5–10 of the module 2 lessons. The Blindspot form became an integral component of the lessons to help participants address areas of self-control that were challenging for them.
A full review of the Blind Spot Form has been carried out as part of the re-examination process in Module 3.
Renew Your Mind
Throughout the course, BSL instructed participants to review the blind spot form to continually reflect on areas of concern. The focus of lesson 6 was the concept of establishing areas of spiritual discipline to replace the idols previously identified. Two enablers, self-denial and self-discipline, were identified as the responsibility of the believer to join the work of the Holy Spirit to develop the virtue of self-control that constitutes the fruit of the Spirit.
The challenge was clearly presented in Lessons 4 and 5 that the growth of self-control is not optional for a genuine disciple of Jesus Christ. Following the instructions of the Apostle James, the emphasis of this lesson was to put into practice what was taught and discussed. One of the spiritual disciplines, personal worship time with the Lord, was a key point of application in this lesson.
The goal of dealing with enslaving sins is not only to experience a change in behavior, but more importantly, to experience the joy of an obedient walk with the Lord. As self-control increases, the change focuses less on the believer and more on Christ. True freedom is not in making the problems in life disappear, but in gaining the strength to endure the problems when they arise.
In direct terms, biblical truth clearly states that giving up and making excuses to fail is not an option. If a believer is not growing in this area, then he is short-sighted and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from the enslaving power of sins (2 Peter 1:9). The expectation is that, at this point, participants have begun to take the steps required to embrace biblical self-control.
Again, the emphasis throughout the course is on building relationships that touch points between lessons.
Re-Examine Yourself
As a result, there was an excellent cross-section of the body of Christ involved in the course. The core of the evaluation process centered on the completion of a self-monitoring assessment process. The mean score for the initial assessment of all participants was 3.2 (score range was 1 to 6).
This baseline was used to determine whether a change in self-control occurred after the learning phase of the project. The questions identified in this review became an integral component of evaluating ways to influence self-control during the education phase of the project. An analysis of survey data was conducted to measure the impact of the course on participants.
Each participant updated the blind spot form completed in the first module of the project to reflect any changes identified throughout the process. The leadership aspect of the third goal, focused on facilitating the development of a self-control strategy by the participants, was successfully met. The Ministry of Renewal's unique focus was well suited to the theme of self-control.
Balancing the ratio between class time and break time of the group was also a strong point of the project. It was also an objective of the project to help participants develop a targeted strategy to address self-control issues. During the first lesson of the final module of the project (Module 3, Lesson 11), each participant again answered questions 20-45.
These results were collected and returned to the participants during the last and last lesson of the project (module 3, lesson 12).

COURSE SYLLABUS
The self-control course introduction included a presentation of the course syllabus to provide a step-by-step guide for participants in the course material.
COURSE GLOSSARY
The introduction to the self-control course included a list of important Bible verses that were mentioned throughout the course and during group discussions. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a certain time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; then walk together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. God is faithful and will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but will also provide a way out with the temptation so that you can withstand it.
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but have divine power to destroy strongholds. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Likewise, that women should adorn themselves in honorable clothing, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive clothing, 1 Timothy 2:11-15.
I do not allow a woman to teach or have authority over a man; instead, keep it quiet. Therefore, an overseer must be blameless, a husband of one wife, sober, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of self-control.
Older men should be sober, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, love, and steadfastness. For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, righteous, and godly lives in the present time, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearance of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works. Therefore, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with fortitude, and fortitude with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love .
The end of all things is near; therefore be self-controlled and sober for the sake of your prayers.

The project was designed to evaluate self-control and identify steps to strengthen this mental quality. The presence of life-dominating sins is a key indication that self-control is lacking and requires strengthening.
