JOHN PAULO C. PINEDA MASTER OF ARTS IN NURSING

Dr. Jessica L. Peck of Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing, an expert and renowned thought and advocacy leader in the field of Nursing stated in one of her publications that, “Nursing is the most innovative, resilient, caring and tenacious profession that has ever existed. Nursing will always find a way to rise up and meet the challenges of tomorrow.” I say, Dr. Peck is spot-on on her description of the Nursing field, especially after the tremendous impact of the recent Corona pandemic throughout the globe. The world finally realized how significant the role of nurses is in the field of Medicine more so, its paramount role in patient care. I found Dr. Peck’s statement as a personal challenge to innovate and develop my knowledge and skills in Nursing pointed at my goal of not only professional growth but a deeper sense of contribution in Nursing practice, education, research and patient care. Advocating for higher education to the attainment of my goal and being equipped with all the essential knowledge and skills is the only reputable way I can so I decided to choose my former Alma Matter to help me hone.

I am driven to pursue my goals and I have a straightforward mindset that hard work, dedication and determination are imperative to attain them. I also have extensive experience in the field of Nursing gained from both hospital and non-hospital setting which will make my understanding of MAN studies more diverse and stimulating. I am an objective person – I know both my strengths and my areas of limitations and I am keen on sharing what I can and humble to seek help for the things I lack.

The healthcare industry has experienced one of the most transformational events of recent history with the Corona Virus pandemic. Its massive impact on the kind of healthcare system we have in the Philippines is both devastating and heart-wrenching.

Philippine Nurses have always been regarded with highest esteem worldwide yet, our country had sub-standard approach to deal with the effects of the pandemic. We were rattled. We were not prepared. Many of our healthcare practitioners chose to keep a blindside and hide-away from the profession they swore to uphold. My thoughts are riding on the research path towards critical care nursing in the phase of a global death- tolling pandemic – are the things we know about it enough and what realization of further development we have for it after Corona.
