#ColortheDayPurple is today. Make a gift to help us reach our $400,000 goal Today is the day!

We are asking all alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and students to #ColortheDayPurple by making a gift to the Alfred Fund. All gifts, no matter the dollar amount, will be matched through a generous

$200,000 challenge gift from two graduates-including the full five years of any new Saxon Circle commitment to the Alfred Fund. We are presently at 436 Saxon Circle members, including 47 faculty and staff, and 29 students.

You can make a gift online or by texting ALFRED to 71777. Be sure to check our social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter throughout the day to see how we are doing. Our goal for the 24-hour campaign is $300,000.

Your involvement and support matter. Among other things, foundations and prominent media rankings such as U.S. News & World Report take into account what percentage of alumni make an annual gift.

Participating also is a great way to support the University we all love in its mission of transforming student lives and bettering the world. And, any investment in the Alfred Fund through the Day of Giving will be doubly valuable to our cause on account of the challenge match.

#ColortheDayPurple lasts 24 hours ... and the clock is ticking.

Rian Kerrane Visiting Artist Presentation Thursday, April 19 at 5:30 pm

BMH Lecture Room 106C Cost: FREE

Sponsored by: Sculpture Dimensional Studies, National Casting Center Foundry

Rian Kerrane will speak about her work, she will be visiting Alfred for a three week artist in residence at the National Casting Center where she will be producing work in Cast Iron and Glass.

Rian Kerrane conceptually classifies her creative work as the Regarding-Self series and The Weight of It All, two streams of thought where she applies cast and fabricated sculpture, site specificity, installation and printmaking as methodologies examining these poetic themes. Her attraction to well- used artifacts stems from the moving individuality that evokes the situation of the individual in a homogenizing industrial/consumer society. Any object or substance can become sculptural material.

Kerrane deliberately incorporates commonplace or industrial objects alongside highbrow traditional art materials. Cultural conformity shifts its familiar looks and feels as markets and fashions evolve, and reflection on the tropes of another time's products and packaging sheds light on our own situation. For her the studio and gallery are a laboratory for a kind of pseudo-science and a physicalized celebration and critique of late modern culture.

Born in Galway, Ireland Kerrane received her BA in Fine Arts Degree from the University of Ulster at Belfast before migrating to the United States where she earned her MFA from the University of New Orleans, Louisiana. Currently residing in Denver, Colorado, Kerrane is Professor and Area Head for the Sculpture Program at the University of Colorado Denver. She was the Keynote for IRON R 2, Cork, Ireland in 2014 and is a board member for the Western Cast Iron Art Alliance. Kerrane contributed to steering the 7th International Conference in Contemporary Cast Iron Art (ICCCIA) in Latvia and is co- director for performances for the upcoming 8th ICCCIA in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 2018. She hosts nomadic foundry events in the region and values the interconnectivity between art practice and the community experience.
