Black Inventors Exhibit

On Thursday, February 15th stop by the 2nd floor of Powell Campus Center to view The Black Inventions Exhibit (BIE).

BIE is proud to announce its 22nd annual tour themed "Black Inventors: Making America Great". This multimedia presentation is a tribute to the unsung heroes, Black inventors and innovators.

Many of the things people use daily are the brainchild of a Black inventor. The golf tee, automatic traffic light, cellular phone and dustpan all were created by Black Inventors. Additionally, the mailbox, pencil sharpener, Super Soaker water gun (that gross over $1 billion dollars) and the world's fastest computer-peaking at 3.1 billion calculations per second-were created by the minds and hands of Black inventors.

The museum reveals many surprising facts and highlights the accomplishments of Blacks in the fields of science, aerospace communication, health care, agriculture, transportation and engineering. The aim of BIE is not only to give credit to the inventors but to inspire others to believe that anything is

possible.

Social Justice special edition of the Fiat Lux

Tuesday, February 20 is World Day of Social Justice. To celebrate this day, we are partnering with the Fiat Lux to create a special edition based on social justice. Faculty, staff, and students can write anything they choose whether it is about a personal experience, a definition they want to explain, or a movement that caught their attention as long as it ties back to social justice. For instance, if you are interested in sports one can talk about taking a knee or if you are invested in women's rights you can address the MeToo movement.

Works can be submitted anytime from now until Monday, February 19 and can be sent to either Kelsey Oliveria at [email protected] or to the President of the Fiat, Logan Gee, [email protected].

We really hope you will consider submitting a piece for this special edition of the Fiat Lux. Additionally, in support of World Day of Social Justice we encourage you to wear something red and stop by Powell Campus Center on Tuesday, February 20 to receive a red ribbon.
