Alfred University Librarians Meeting

Attending: Ellen Bahr, Samantha Dannick, John Hosford, Laurie Lounsberry McFadden, Mechele Romanchock, Brian Sullivan

I. Approval of Minutes

• September 19th meeting minutes approved.

II. Library Team Briefing and Reports

• Discussion of best way to communicate reports from Faculty Senate, Executive and Deans Councils, NYSCC Deans/Directors.

• Any relevant items in need of discussion should be made agenda items for Librarian or All-Staff meetings as appropriate.

• Longer (90 minute) Librarian meetings will include Dean time at the end for the sharing of key details from these reports (or anything else the Dean wishes to share). The Dean may also choose to email reports in additional to or in lieu of sharing during the meetings based on their judgement of priority, relevance and time constraints.

• Team reports may still be made in Librarians meetings but all will be conscious of time.

• Library Team updates can also be reported on during All-Staff meetings to keep Staff informed.

• Faculty Senate –Ellen reported from 9/7 meeting o Community Service and P&T

o Five Year Reviews

• Cataloger retiring-discussion of strategy for moving forward with the position. Further discussion is needed for the long-term structure of AU Libraries Technical Services and Archives as they relate to this pending vacancy.

• Alfred University Strategic Planning

o Change in the template to submit strategic plan-addition of a

“Innovation” column.

o Section being developed for funding Faculty/Staff initiatives that could be income generating with the idea that the innovation fund would eventually be self-supporting.

o Discussion of how the Libraries could populate this column

• Librarian Role

o Discussion of how we can be available to patrons (students and faculty) and provide good customer service while also being true to our professional training, helping the campus to understand our unique knowledge and skills, and managing complex and sometimes competing demands on our time.
