Our stock of sheet music, books and foreign imports is unquestionably the largest in the country. I was tired, having spent the day in the office figuring out seemingly countless tons of gallons to be shipped in the morning. The rain turned to a snow that fell in zig-zag lines in front of the window and melted on the pane as soon as it touched it.

I could clearly see the hunched figure of the man sitting where I had left him before dinner, but this time he was leaning far forward with his head between his knees. We debated the matter for and against, but had found no solution to the problem when the doctor came in and informed us that he thought the man would be all right in the morning, only a slight epileptic fit that had made him delirious . I went straight to my room and found my husband sitting in the morris chair with his feet on the table.

It has long been known in business circles that this must be the result of devastating competition.' I'm really worried about him, he looks so tired.' That made an easy opening for the young Cottrell, and it was not long before it was suggested that a young man by the name of Philip Page was in a position of gross injustice. Naturally, Irene was nervous at this terrible revelation of the state of affairs, and the condition of her mind can well be imagined when she discovered at the same time the cause of her father's troubles, and the malice of a man. man she had respected, if nothing more.

It seemed so unusual that she was drawn, and soon she found herself tearing open the letter, however semi-abstractly. So it was that a few evenings later she came back from:1= a hall, her mind was in a whirl over all her difficulties, to which another factor had just been added. She almost lost track of herself in the maze she was in, and so she had given him no answer, but had waited until she could think over all that had happened and then decide what to do. happen to her to do.

But she found him in trouble and discomfort before an open grate, and before she could decide what to do, she caught indistinctly some words about "The embezzler.—University—money, more money—dishonorable little girl." Horrified, she started back. The young girl saw that this was the only way out of the terrible shame and ruin. However, her heart nearly gave out when she thought of all she had sacrificed and the total destruction of her life.

Irene smiled bravely and continued with plans for the future, trying in every way to ease the burden on her father's mind. As her father had desired, preparations for Irene's marriage began soon after Philip Page was informed of his prosperity.

Although recitation and preparation are activities, these alone are not useful to the people. The answer here to the best way to express this expression is: 'in the university activities'. Will the student join a ball team and use all his strength to make that team and its games a success?

First of all, because the physical nature is the foundation on which the mental need builds. President King of Oberlin says, "A man's life is measured by the interests to which he may respond." Multiplying interests therefore means broadening character and living a more complete life. Nowhere else can the student come into closer contact with the real character of his fellow human beings.

By trying to raise it to a higher level, we make our own standards more definite, and reveal to ourselves just how far we have traveled toward the goal of our goals. We may be_ not unwilling to enter upon all the activities of college life which present themselves _at once, but. To quote from Lotze-" We must continue these exercises, devote to these contracted ends, all the ardor of our souls, painfully feel these discords, and again and again renew the conflict concerning them; our life will not be complicated by depreciation not of his life. conditions and of the stage which it presents to our struggling energy."

Every day and every task involves for us something beyond the here and now. If we do not, it is to our own shame and not to the opportunities that college life and college activities offer us.

It is not the purpose here to answer the question, but simply to present it to the student body for resolution. College buildings friends of the Purple and Gold should prepare to shout in a nearby event, when the College becomes a reality. The bill successfully passed the House and is now being considered in the Senate, where no opposition is being looked at, so that its final realization is imminent.

The Carnegie Library is somewhat behind schedule for this latest project, but it is said that its final appearance is so far advanced that "Prexie" is already laughing at the idea of giving us its reality at the same time the College of Agriculture bill is passed . Irresponsibility is important to everyone ~ why they try to avoid any task regardless of whether it would be of the greatest benefit to their Alma Mater, the student body, and, yes, themselves. Why is it that everyone likes to think about student spirit and chat a lot, but avoid every opportunity to help themselves?".

No, we can hardly say that it is quite right, for there are a few who must necessarily provide for these things, and could not escape them if they would. Nevertheless, it is true that those who do the least in creating a broad university life are those who strive to do even less. They do not go deep enough to see that a dictionary of scbo.ol-:roo,m knowledge does not give them the ability to adapt to the various interests they are sure to meet.

The feelings expressed as the Dean did, are certainly inspiring and cannot but be embedded in the body of the students. We certainly appreciate a progressive speech of this kind that makes us proud of Old Alfred, proud of its traditions, proud of its future.

It's almost discouraging sometimes, no matter how many new resolutions are made, not just every New Year, but anytime they are sure to be broken. at least for the most part. You no doubt know many people who are close to your ideal and you would give a lot to be even a little like them, take 1 nanny of inspiration from them and it overwhelms you to the fullest of your being, but before you know it you have failed ~ again . You want to find a true friend who you can trust with all your heart and share your thoughts and desires with, someone who can bring out the best in you.

You have such a brave, strong and true ideal in your heart and everyone you meet is compared to that ideal. But if you look long enough and hard enough, you're bound to find a friend just like me. These are the times when true and false friends turn out, and when trouble comes, it's comforting to know you have a friend, or maybe more, you can count on.

When I was a small child, I well remember having an ideal lady in my mind whom I thought of as "My Lady". My Lady would not have done such a thing, what will she think of you now?" As much as I longed to be good, my temper often got the best of me and 1 were the times I would have given much to to do otherwise I have since found that "My Lady" rnust be my mother, and surely your mother is your best friend and ideal.

Being with them, or just thinking about them, brings out the best in me, and I long to be to everyone half the help and inspiration that these friends are to me. I long to do something to show my gratitude, and it is in fact one of my greatest ambitions, but the only possible way seems to be this: to pass it on to others.

We can think of no reason why such a brilliant story would find a place in a college publication. One of the best stories we found is ''The Way of the World'' in The Hobart Herald.

But to lie there—that is disgrace." This is the sentiment expressed on the first page of The Steed. 34; We count our years by our heartbeats, in the hours of joy and pain.
