CERAMIC ENGINEERING CERAMIC SCIENCE
CERAMIC ENGINEERING
Programs leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering prepare the student for an internship that will last at least four years and which will then prepare him for the professional examination he must pass before he can be called an engineer. The undergraduate program leading to a degree in ceramic engineering prepares the student for a career as a professional engineer. After completing the course, he is eligible to take the Engineer-in-Training exam and the final exam required for a professional engineer license.
CERAMIC SCIENCE
GLASS SCIENCE
In general, all courses offered by the Glass Science Department, by the Ceramic Engineering Department, by the Chemistry and Physics Departments, and by the Mathematics Departments, other than those required for the Glass Science Program, are suitable for technical electives in the glass program. To ensure this, they must be reviewed and approved by the student's advisor and by the department chair before registration. Certain courses in Economics and Business form technical electives and can be chosen as such.
A minimum of 15 hours of such technical electives must be selected with the approval of the advisor and chair of the Glass Sciences Department. A minimum of 12 hours of non-technical courses approved by the student's advisor and the chair of the Glass Department must also be selected, for a total of 150 hours required for completion of the Bachelor of Science degree in Glass Science.

GENERAL INFORMATION
All full-time undergraduate and graduate students must subscribe to the University Sickness and Accident Insurance Scheme. The program provides 12 months of sickness and accident cover for students, 24 hours a day, on or off campus, excluding policy. Although normal, successful progress in the studies undertaken is the responsibility of the individual student, the administration and faculty of the University are active in providing guidance and assistance.
The first week of the academic year is primarily intended to guide incoming students to university life and school work. Students should give serious consideration to post-graduation plans early in their college careers and consult with appropriate department chairs, especially if those plans include graduate study. Approximately 300 courses may be taken for credit by graduate students by special arrangements made in advance with the head of the department offering the course.
Note: The College of Ceramics uses the numbers 300 and 400 to designate the third and fourth year courses respectively. Withdrawal grades are used only if the student processes his withdrawal from a course before the dates published in the course schedule and registration instructions. If a course is repeated and a higher grade is earned, its index replaces that of the previous grade.
HONORS, PRIZES, AND AWARDS
A student who must withdraw from the university for any reason during the academic year must first consult with the dean of students or the deputy dean of students. Students who plan to withdraw at the end of a semester should also consult with the Dean of Students or Assistant Dean of Students. Initiating the withdrawal in this way is primarily intended for good guidance, but is also necessary if the student wants to receive the refund due.
A student withdrawing during the summer must notify the Dean of Students or Dean of Students on or before July 1 if his $50.00 advance deposit will be refunded.
