Registration for Spring Classes and Allen Term Under Way
Registration for Spring Semester 2014 and for the courses available over winter break in Allen Term 2013-14 begins at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4 on AU BannerWeb.
Graduate students and those undergraduates who will have senior standing next semester (90+ credit hours earned by the end of this semester) can register starting today for Spring 2014 classes.
Registration for Allen Term is available now to all students.
See the attached for additional Spring Semester registration information. Visit the Allen Term Web page for more information about the online courses available between Dec. 16 and Jan. 17.

Parking Prohibited on South Lawn of McLane Center Parking on the south lawn of McLane Center is no longer allowed.
Due to the continuing precipitation, the area has become impassable and unsafe. Please take extra time to find alternative parking on campus. Spaces are available in the Ade Hall and Ford Street parking lots and Pine Hill extension.

Red Cross Blood Drive Nov. 5
The Women's Soccer Team is sponsoring a blood drive on Tuesday, Nov. from noon-5:30 p.m. in the Knight Club, Powell Campus Center.
Although walk-ins are accepted, pre-registration is appreciated. There will be pre-registration sessions on Friday, Nov. 1 and Monday, Nov. 4 in front of the Bookstore, Powell Campus Center, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Corning Museums Day Trip on Nov. 16
ISSO will be having another field trip this semester to Corning Museum of Glass (and) Rockwell Museum of Art.
The trip will be on Saturday, Nov. 16, departing at 10 a.m. and arriving back to Alfred around 4 p.m.
Student price for CMOG is $5.
CMOG+Rockwell Museum is $10.
Adult price for CMOG is $10.
CMOG+ Rockwell Museum is $15.
And students under age 19 have FREE admissions to any of the 2 museums.
We need a count of how many people are interested in this trip. We need at least 30 to fill up the bus.

Writing Center Workshop: Art History Thesis and Outlines
The Writing Center will be hosting an art history workshop on Friday, Nov. 8 at 12:20 p.m. We will focus on elements critical to creating a research project or paper, specifically dealing with developing a clear thesis and a well organized outline.
This workshop is open to students working in any art history level. Pizza will be served!
The workshop will take place in the computer lab in the basement of Seidlin Hall, Seidlin 016. Email [email protected] to sign up so we know how much pizza to order.

Submit Your Writing to the Wit and Wisdom Competition!
Phi Beta Kappa at Alfred University is accepting submissions to the Wit and Wisdom Student Competition. The contest is open to full-time undergraduates who should submit their best written work (scholarly or creative) suitable for a general audience.
The winner will receive a $250 prize, present his or her work at a Bergren Forum, and be honored at a special dinner. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Nov. 8.

Human vs. Zombies Game @ AU Human vs. Zombies Game @ AU
Humans vs. Zombies is a game of tag. All players begin as humans, and one is randomly chosen to be the "Original Zombie." The Original Zombie tags human players and turns them into zombies. Zombies must tag and eat a human every 72 hours or they starve to death and are out of the game.

Start: Friday, Nov. 8 @ 12:01 A.M.
End: Monday, Nov. 25 @ 6 P.M.

Safety Information:
Safety Rules
Rules created for the safety of all players are strictly enforced. Violation of safety rules will result in a ban from the game.
1. No realistic-looking weaponry. Blasters/Nerf guns are prohibited. Only socks will be used to stun zombies.
2. Players may not use cars or play where there is traffic.
3. No head shots allowed. Do not throw socks at the zombie's head. Hits to the head don't count as a stun.
Safe Zones
Some areas on campus are "no play zones," where the game is permanently suspended. These areas include:
* All academic and non-academic buildings
* Bathrooms
* Dorm rooms
* Dining Halls
Both players must have both feet outside of the no-play zones in order to tag/stun.
Players:
Players of the game will be identified by a purple or gold bandana tied to an arm, leg or around their head.

Hunting Season Has Begun
Please use caution when walking on state or private lands during this time of year. Wearing a blaze orange hat and vest is highly recommended.
Archery season has already begun for the Southern Tier and regular/muzzle loader gun season will run
from Nov.16 through Dec. 17.

2013 Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)
HSK tests will be held at 12:30-2:30 p.m. for Level 3 & 7-9 p.m. for Level 1 on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 in Perlman 105.
The tests are open to anyone who is interested in assessing his or her proficiency in Chinese language.
The last date to register is Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013. The registration fees for HSK level 1 and 3 are
$20 and $40, respectively.
The new HSK test was launched by Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) in an effort to better serve Chinese language learners. The number of HSK testing centers has reached 180 in 60 countries.
