Alfred University welcomes new inductees to Phi Sigma Iota 4/30/18

ALFRED, NY Six Alfred University students were inducted earlier this month into the Sigma Tau chapter of Phi Sigma Iota, the International Foreign Language Honor society.

Phi Sigma Iota recognizes outstanding accomplishment in the study or teaching of any of the academic fields related to foreign language, literature, or culture. Induction into Phi Sigma Iota represents the highest academic honor in the field of foreign languages.

Inducted during the April 10 ceremony were: Kendra Byrwa, junior from Wasilla, AK, majoring in biology (pre-health concentration with minors in French and chemistry); Rebecca Cetta, senior from Walton, NY, majoring in Spanish and global studies (minor in cultural anthropology); Anna Gray, junior from Buffalo, NY, majoring in art and design (Spanish minor); Mackenzie Linnell, junior from North Las Vegas, NV, majoring political science and foreign language/culture studies (concentration in French with a minor in public law); Keely McGowan, junior from Hornell, NY, majoring in interdisciplinary art and foreign language/culture studies (concentration in French with a minor in education) and Kristen Williams, junior from Hornell, NY, majoring in foreign language/culture studies (concentration in French with a minor in Spanish).

Faculty advisor, Cecilia Beach, professor of French, presided over the induction ceremony, assisted by the chapter&s Student President, Nelly Burch, junior Spanish major from Wells, VT.

Also in attendance were Kerry Kautzman, associate professor of Spanish; Erin Redmond, associate professor of Spanish; Sandra Singer, division chair and professor of German and Latin; Katie Wang, instructor of Chinese;

Fulbright teaching assistants Alexiane Bacle and Angelica Gomez; Beth Ann Dobie, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; and friends and family of the new inductees.
