PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

By Josiah Phelps

The convention is over and those of us who were fortu- nate enough to attend should· have returned home with a double determination to work harder in 1990 to carry out lhepurposes and objectives of the FFA Alumni. We should now be ready to move into action with a kind of

.ii - influence that·will get the job done and meet the challenge that is set before us in each state. What is the job and what is the challenge?

An analysis of the 1989 FFA Alumni membership report reveals the following:

•Thirteen states do not have enough members to entitle them to one delegate.

•Twenty states were entitled to one delegate.

• Four states had two, seven states had three, and two states had five delegates.

•Other states had seven, ten, twenty-four, and thiny- nine delegates respectively.

There was a wide range in state FFA Alumni member- ship from 5 to 7,945. We may ask the question, "Why do so many states have no delegates?" The answer to this question may be "Leadership".

In every state, there are good leaders. Therefore, it is clear that many states need more state leaders in the FFA Alumni. Dr. Duane Nielsen in his convention speech stated, "as you return to your states, remember that the challenges you will face as a local and state FF A Alumni leader are really only opportunities in disguise".

The job is to get more members -- and the challenge is to increase delegate numbers for next year's convention.

We need you to provide leadership in your local and state FFA Alumni Association.

LIFE MEMBER MILESTO:\E

Life member number 10,CXXJ will be reached sometime in 1990. On December 14, we had 9,701 life members.

The FFA Alumni Council has voted to recognize the person receiving number 10.000 with a special plaque that will be presented at the 1990 national convention. In addition. this lucky life member will be provided two nights free lodging during the convention at the Kansas City Oub. We hope you will help us reach this milestone by signing up a life member as soon as possible.
