N enstiel, who requested that the official ceremonies begin with the singing of America's first verse. Turner Weideman recited the Turners' many contributions to American history. The names of the present and registered delegates and deputies from the districts are as follows:

In addition to the above delegates and deputies, the following members of the National Executive Committee are also present: A motion was then made and seconded that the report of the Credentials Committee, as revised, be adopted. A motion was then made that the appointments be closed, and Rev. Meisner was declared permanent chairman of the convention.

The motion having been duly introduced and passed, these three experienced Turners were elected honorary presidents of the convention. Two years ago, more than 700 of our members were in the government's armed forces. The motion having been duly introduced and carried, it was ordered that these reports should be accepted by the convention, subject to the approval of the Finance Committee of the convention.

The President1{ then asked for the report of this part of the mandate committee, in which the tasks of the delegates in several committees were stated. The President then asked for a motion fixing the time to which this meeting of the convention should be adjourned. COMMITTEE ON NATIONAL PUBLICATION AND PUBLICATION FOR THE 40TH NATIONAL CONVENTION OF THE AMERICAN TURNERS:.

We recommend that the scholarships awarded annually at the Normal College of A.G.U. Indiana University, completed by the two American Turners, should be continued under the full direction and control of the National Executive Committee. Paragraphs 1 and 6 of the above report were adopted consecutively by the convention after a short discussion. On motion duly made and carried, the report of the Committee on Cultural Education of the Convention was adopted in its entirety.

This motion having been accepted, the Chairman ordered that the Convention return to the consideration of Paragraphs 1, 2, 12 and 16 of the Report of the Committee on National Publication and Publicity. The Chairman then directed that the Convention hear the Report of the Finance Committee submitted by the Chairman, Henry G. Kneberg, Carl Steinkopf and Archie Wilson, ex officio, Treasurer of the National Executive Committee.

Wolf referred to in § 1 of the finance committee's report is as follows.

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON NATIONAL AFFAIRS To the 40th National Convention of the American Gymnastics:. We recommend that Associations and individual members of the American Turners make contributions to the Instructors' Fund of the American Turners, established for the purpose of assisting Turner Instructors who have served faithfully and are in serious need of financial assistance. We recommend that the Headquarters of the National Executive Committee of the American Turners be located at the Detroit Turners, Detroit, Michigan for the next two years and that we express our sincere appreciation for the services they have rendered and give them a rising voice of thanks.

We recommend that the Convention ratify the action of the National Executive Committee to exempt members of the various services of the United States directly prosecuting the war from payment of the per capita tax during their service. We recommend that the host of the next national convention be decided by the delegates on the basis of a proposal from the assembled delegation or, if there is no proposal, that the choice of the seat of the next national convention be left to the national executive committee. The Committee on National Affairs, through its Chairman, J. Zimmermann, submitted the following report containing an amendment to the Statutes of the American Turners:. We recommend that paragraph 32 of the bylaws of the American Turners be amended to read as follows. After brief discussion, this supplementary report containing an amendment to the Statutes was unanimously accepted by voice vote of the Convention.

Zimmermann then presented the following supplementary report, which includes a modification of the American Turner states:. We recommend that the first sentence of Section 61 of the Articles of Association of American Turners be amended to read as follows: Each Society shall pay to American Turners through its district an annual per capita. A proposed amendment to the bylaws of the American Turners was submitted by the Pittsburgh District to clarify several ambiguous clauses, and this committee agrees with the recommended changes as.

Voelker of the Pittsburgh District from which this proposition arose, the report of the Committee on Platform, Bylaws and Grievances, and the amendments to the Bylaws proposed therein, were unanimously adopted by voice vote of the Convention. At this point a motion was made by Turner Anthony King of the District of Wisconsin, requesting that two resolutions submitted by the District of Wisconsin to the Committee on National Affairs and defeated in that Committee be printed in the official minutes of the Convention.
