INTRODUCTION

  • Background of the Study
  • Research Question
  • Objective and Benefits of the Study
  • Prior Research

Translation is not easy to do because the differences between the two languages also include cultural differences, so the translator must be a master in his field. The main issue in translation is that a translator may not change the meaning of the message of the original text. . Evaluation of the translation quality of “The 8th Habit: from Effectiveness to Greatness by Stephen R. American Policy Development Research Institute 2016) Vol. 17Mohamed Abdou Moindjie, “The Behavior of Non-finite Verbs in Translation: A Comparative Case Study of English, Malay and French”, University of California: International Journal of Comparative Literature and Translation Studies, Vol.

The writer decided to use a qualitative research analysis of the infinitive verb in translating students at IAIN Metro. According to the above explanation, the purpose of this research is to know the accuracy of the non-finite verb in the translation of students at IAIN Metro. Infinitives are heard, but the student answers and the use of “for” in the infinitive function are incorrect.

THEORETICAL REVIEW

The Concept of Translation

  • The definition of Translation
  • Method Translation
  • Process of Translation
  • Translation Quality Assessment

In general, translation is defined as the process of transferring a message from a source language to a target language. Therefore, the writer concludes that translation is the process of transferring message, information and culture from the source language to the target language. When the translator can understand the meaning and structure of the text in the source language, he can capture the substantive message.

The next step is to transfer the content, meaning and message of the source language into the target language. 2 Less accurate Most of the meaning of words, a technical term, phrase, sentence, sentence or text of the source language is accurately transferred to the target language. Incorrect The meaning of a word, technical term, phrase, clause, sentence, or source language text incorrectly transferred to the target language or omitted (deleted).

Concept of English Verb

  • The Nature of Verb
  • The Kind of Verb
  • The Nature of Non-Finite Verb

This type of verb is not accompanied by an auxiliary or modified form of the present participle (verb-ing). The most important thing about this type of verb is that it is used only in the present and past tense, which does not actually include auxiliary verbs. In its usage, non-finite is used as a form of non-finite clause which is a dependent clause.

The non-finite verb is also not affected by agreement, namely person (first, second, third) and also number (singular and plural). 18. In addition, the non-finite verb is a verbal element that is not marked for person, number or time. 19. Based on the above definition, non-finite is a verb that is not affected by tense but has definite meanings, non-finite verb cannot be main verb.

The grammatical functions of non-finite are the same as we identified for finite (nominal, adjectival and adverbial), but not all non-finite forms can serve all functions, but non-finite does not function as a verb. There are probably aspects of the meaning that can be deduced from this larger construction, but which are not explicitly expressed in the non-finite sentence itself, as usually in main clauses. Non-finite comes in a very wide range of functions, but there are major differences between the three types.

According to Andrew Radford, infinitive forms consist of "the base or stem of the verb without added inflection (such forms are often used after the so-called infinitive particle to.)" 21. The participle is generally used to refer to types of verbs that are not finite which are mostly joined with a finite auxiliary. The present participle is the -ing form of the verb which, together with the auxiliary verb, gives a progressive aspect.

In English, this form of the verb, together with the auxiliary have, gives the perfect aspect.

  • Approach

A qualitative writer also has a range of data collection techniques, including in-depth interviewing, participant observation, and document analysis.31 The writer in this research uses a document to collect data. In this research, the author used three techniques for data collection, observation and documentation and interview as follows. Observation is one of the data collection techniques that help the writer to get important information related to the data.

Based on observational data, some translation accuracy results are incomplete during the fifth semester at IAIN Metro. Based on the results of the data analysis, it is determined that the student translation needs to be improved, and the type of non-finite should also be understood. Based on the results of the data analysis, the author concludes as follows.

Based on the result of the data analysis, the author likes to interpret the suggestion as follows.

The student has a low desire to learn English, especially in translation, the barriers to translating non-finite are due to the use of infinitive and. The student should learn more about how to use a non-finite verb properly and the teacher should use an appropriate strategy, method and media to make the learning process of students easy.
