One of the problems is that the researcher cannot control the class, so many students have difficulty to concentrate in the learning process. Thanks Allah, the lord of the word, who has given blessings and mercy to the writer so that she could complete her dissertation, is entitled: "INCREASE READING COMPREHENSIVE SKILLS THROUGH SENSE UNDERSTANDING IN THE STUDENT OF THE MUHAMMADIYAH 2 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL OF METRO".

This thesis is presented as a partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of Sarjana Pendidikan Islam ( S.Pd.I ) in the English Education Studies Program in STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro.

INTRODUCTION

Background of The Problem

For example, the students have low motivation in learning English and they found many false in answers. In this treatment, the researcher taught the student's about the elements of the sentence to help the students understand. After that, the researcher gave reading comprehension test to the students to know the students' ability in reading comprehension after treatment using narrative text as reading material.

Hopefully, the students' reading comprehension can be achieved by presenting Understanding Sentence in teaching reading comprehension.

Be useful for developing knowledge that comprehension is a technique that can be used to teach reading comprehension effectively, easily and can be made as a reference for future researcher.

And to read it with understanding, one will recognize the purpose and the important point of the text, apart from understanding the surface meaning of the text. In reading comprehension, there are two sub-main processes of reading that determine the readers' understanding of the reading material that is there;. In this research, the research measured the students' interpretation of the text based on the situation that happened in their reading text.

And it is not easy moreover in complicated English text, students need more understanding about the main ideas of the reading text. It can be understood that sentence is something that helps a person to express what he has and as a group of words it means that a sentence can contain more than one word. It aligns with Anies who says that a sentence is a group of words that have a subject and a verb that shows the complete idea about the person, place or things. 20.

Verb is a word or a phrase used in describing an action, experience or state.27 It can be understood that verb is a process of representing an action or state. O refers to object which is a noun or pronoun that normally comes after the verb in an active clause.30 It is usually a person or thing that receives the action from the subject. C refers to complementt used to complete the meaning of the subject or object form element.

So, the reader needs a meaning in the sentences that contain a text to get accurate information of the text. In the understanding of the sentence, the researcher teaches the students on the basis of the sentence for the first and let the students understand how the sentence is constructed so that when the students read the text and the question, they can get correct information.

Procedures of Understanding Sentence

  • Reading Comprehension trough Understanding Sentence a). Understanding Sentence

Djiwandono states that understanding sentence is very important for understanding a text.34 This means that understanding sentence can be used to help the reader understand a text and it will be an effective technique. When using sentence comprehension, the better teacher uses the English passages that have more difficulty in language and complications, so that students can practice their sentence comprehension and they can practice more useful sentence comprehension. Students can tell which part of the sentence (subject or predicate) is missing from each group of words below.

This includes knowledge of sentence structure and sentence structure. Teaching reading comprehension by using sentence comprehension as a technique and then explaining that they are supporting elements during the learning process, such as part of sentences and the element of sentences, will help readers better understand the material so that they easily read the message and information of those passages. Therefore, the writer wishes that after students have done reading comprehension by using comprehension sentences as a reading technique, the students will get messages and information based on the passages they read that will increase the knowledge of the students so that.. their understanding of the text and as a result will improve the student's reading comprehension ability.

Common sentence comprehension also means how far the students can answer the question from the text, the question showed how far the student can understand the read sentence. It is aimed at the student's basic reading skills and the result is seen by answering a question that includes a comprehension sentence. b). Teaching reading comprehension with sentence comprehension is no different than teaching reading comprehension in general.

The researcher presents the application of sentence comprehension in teaching reading comprehension to make it easier for the students to improve their English reading skills. This comprehension sentence is used to ensure that students have activating prior knowledge when they read.

The Hypothesis

Reading is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols in order to construct or derive meaning (reading comprehension). Like any other language, it is a complex interaction between the text and the reader, which is shaped by the reader's prior knowledge, experiences, attitude and language community, which is culturally and socially situated.

The researcher chose MPŠ eleventh graders because this class has the lowest English, especially in reading, which was proven by the pre-survey result.

The students and the teacher behavior during the teaching learning process by the researcher. The observation sheet was planed based on the data that the researcher would evaluate to evaluate the students' activity in learning process based on the task. The hypothesis is based on the comparison between both the students' score in the pre-test and post-test scores.

A pre-test was done to know how far the students were in reading comprehension before the treatment. In this survey or observation was used to obtain data about the students and the activity of the teacher since the teaching learning process. From cycle 2 all students were successful, the cycle could only stop until cycle 2.

The pre-test lasted 45 minutes to measure how far students had mastered reading comprehension. The results of the pre-test show that the results of the students are different. So, based on the pretest result, it can be seen that the KKM-based teaching goal has not yet been archived.

Then the writer explained the conjunctions and the students tried to underline the conjunction that is in the text. Then the students discuss in groups to find the place of subject, object, verb and complement in each sentence. At the end of the learning process, students discuss the main idea in each paragraph in groups, and the writer and students revise together.

From the table above, it can be seen that the activity of students is about 55, 34% of all students.

From the table that was prepared to submit data in cycle 1, it can be seen that the planning of the teaching learning was given the category Good by getting a score of 36. Source: the result of the treatment at cycle 1 of The Eleventh IPS Graders of Muhammadyah 2 Islamic Senior High Schools of Metro In The Academic Year. So the teacher explained parts of the narrative text and went on to explain the past tense formula.

At the end of the learning process, the writer asked the students to remember the verb type. After the students try to underline the action of the verb included in the text, and the teacher and students correct together, in the last learning process, the students work in a group and discuss the main idea in each paragraph, and the writer and students correct. together. Based on the above table, it can be seen that the activity of the students is better than before and there was an increase from the 1st and 2nd cycle.

Based on the table that was prepared to submit the data in cycle 2, it can be seen that teaching planning has received the very good category, receiving 45 points. And more than half of the students have full scores at their minimum standard, in other words, teaching reading comprehension using sentence comprehension can be increased. Based on the result of the treatment for increasing reading comprehension through sentence comprehension, the writer concludes the research that sentence comprehension can be used as an alternative in teaching reading comprehension, this conclusion can be seen from the result of the mean score of the student from the pretest (44, 12) to the posttest result (70, 87). After comparing the results of the pretest and the posttest, the writer finds that the average score of the students has increased by 25.12 points.

And the grade that 30 students out of 40 students got based on KKM and there were 10 students got grade on KKM or more than half of the students completed.
