The concept of code switching is to facilitate communication between students and teachers in the classroom, especially in the EFL class. Therefore, the researcher would like to conduct the research titled "An Analysis of Code Switching Used By Teachers In EFL Class at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan". What are language/varieties are typically used in code switching used by English teachers in the EFL class at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan.

Languages/varieties are typically used in code switching used by the English teachers in EFL class at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan 2. The researcher expected that this study could provide information and corroborate previous theories about the types, benefits and challenges of code switching. Code switching used by various people in the country who are not familiar with English language.

In this study, code switching is generally used by the English teachers in EFL class in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan during the teaching and learning process. So, this study aims to analyze the code switching used by the English teachers in EFL Class.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Previous Study

In addition, intrasentential, intersentential, and extrasentential are also found in the types of code switching. Therefore, the lecturer gives priority to the student's understanding of the material, which is why there is mixing and switching of codes in the learning process. The three types of code switching are inter-statement switching, intra-statement switching, and tag switching.

Antecedents and challenges of code switching used by English teachers in the EFL classroom in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan. During the interview and observation, three teachers in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan discovered several benefits of code switching which the researcher wrote in the previous chapter. So this is a negative impact of code switching with some benefits discussed in the previous topic.

In the type of code switching derived from Hoffman's theory, the researcher found 182 expressions of code switching uttered by the three teachers in the EFL class of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan. The types of code switching found in EFL Class at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan are intersentential, intra-sentential and tag switching. The findings show that the teachers are spontaneous in the use of code switching in the utterances.

All the teachers in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan experience all the benefits of code switching. What types of code switching are used by the teacher in the EFL class at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan.

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

This section talks about the languages/varieties commonly used in code switching by the English teachers in EFL class in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan that researchers found during the study by observing and interviewing the English teachers in EFL class at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan. After observing and interviewing three teachers in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan, the researcher found that three languages/varieties are commonly used in code switching, namely intersentential, intrasentential and tag switching. The ensemble of each type of code switching consists of 39 intersentential, 121 intrasentential and 22 tag switches.

From the results of observations and interviews conducted by researchers, 39 examples of inter-sentence code switching used by 3 teachers at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan have been found. Usually with this type of code switching to be clear, but if I think the students have understood, I use English. 68 Teacher 1 at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan interviewed by the researcher on March 16 .. utterances of the inter-sentential type used by 3 teachers and this type of code-switching is the most common due to its spontaneous use of only 1 or 2 words in the mother tongue or the opposite.

Realizing that the students in the EFL class make sure that all teachers use code-switching, as the teacher's answer 3 above. Tag switching is a type of code switching that is easy to remember because it is a 1-word character or short phrase in the target language or

Based on teacher 3 said, it shows that the students will enjoy it when the teacher relaxes the students to learn the language by practicing code switching. The next advantage of code-switching is comprehensible explanation, which means that using code-switching during the learning process will facilitate the teacher's job in conveying the lesson. 80 Student 2 at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pasuruan interviewed by the teacher on March 17, 2023. easier self-expression means the use of code switching makes it easier for users to express their feeling by mixing the first language and the second language without fear be for wrong.

In addition to the benefits of code-switching discussed in the previous session, the three teachers who use code-switching in class face challenges. Based on the responses of the three teachers, they all felt that the students became lazy in using complex English because the teachers also used code-switching during the lessons. From the answer of the third teacher, it is clear that the code change affects the writing of tests in the 12th grade.

Conclusion

The results showed that each of these types of code switching is found in all teachers during the teaching process, and the most common type is intra-sentence switching. They are code-switching which makes students lazy in applying English, students lose confidence in using English and code-switching is not acceptable in the written exam. Code-switching of teachers' thinking is a very useful alternative way for teachers to teach in the EFL classroom.
