2 1. INTRODUCTION:
As of 31st December 2018, there is no publicly available data which shows the exact number and composition breakdown of Poison License A holders (usually Pharmacists) as well as the number of Community Pharmacies in Malaysia. There is a Register of Licenses available on the Official Portal of Pharmaceutical Services Program, Ministry of Health Malaysia. However its filtering and sorting functions are limited, for example 1:
Licenses are only distinguishable by Retail, Retail and Wholesale, Wholesale but no other categories available for selection
Licenses which have been cancelled remains in the Register, which results in several duplicates, especially if the license holder changes company or moves to a different state to work
2. OBJECTIVES
To determine the exact number of Poison License A holders in Malaysia and to sort them according to their respective categories
To determine the exact number of Community Pharmacies in Malaysia
3. METHODOLOGY
1. Available data was extracted from the Register of Licenses, Official Portal of Pharmaceutical Services Program (refer Appendix 1) on the 31st of December 2018 to ensure it was the most updated. Microsoft Excel was used to sort and analyse the data.
2. The data was sorted by name, address, type of license to ensure all duplicates were removed.
Then the data was separated into different states before being sorted out into various categories:
Community Pharmacy, Private Hospitals/Clinic and Industry/Vet/Wholesale based on the license category as well as using the company name as a guide. (refer Appendix 2)
3. The names of the license holders were removed and only the company name was remained.
Duplicates were removed to determine the exact number of Community Pharmacies in Malaysia. (refer Appendix 3)
4. All the sorted data was then compiled into a simplified table.

4 5. DISCUSSION
With these data, many other research can be carried out, such as determining whether there are sufficient Pharmacists in the private sector compared to the recommended ratio by WHO, and so forth.
Limitation of this report:
Data analysed was not cross-checked by a third party and this could cause some deviation (estimated to be around 5%) due to human error.
Certain companies may be categorized into the wrong group as the company name is quite ambiguous to the author
6. CONCLUSON
There are a total of 5008 Poison License A holders and 2889 Community Pharmacies in Malaysia as of 31st December 2018.
