Students' success depends a lot on their elementary knowledge; and the faculty will judge each student's qualifications, not so much by. The Flodern languages are not part of the regular course; they will be taught by a professor of the best capacity, for which he will demand an additional fee. And if they continue to the end of the senior year and sustain themselves in the final exam, they will receive certificates of proficiency.
Lectures will occasionally be given in the School of Ethics and Belles Lettres, on each of the branches of science taught therein. Memory is an important tool, but completely subordinate to the development of reason. The students, however, will be instructed in the drafting of legal documents and the usual forms of pleading in courts and cases, and will be assisted by the professors in the private study of the law and practice of their own states.

They must attend two full lectures at a regular and accredited medical school; the last one must be in this institution. They must write an acceptable thesis and deposit it with the dean by the first day of February, on a medical topic of their own choosing. Upon obtaining the diploma, recognize the faculty's right to withdraw the diploma if he/she engages in improper or unprofessional conduct.

HISTORICAL NOTICE OF THE UNIVERSITY
During the above period of seven years, nineteen students were admitted to the first degree of Arts. In 1825, a 120-acre farm near the college was purchased for $60 per acre (total cost $7,200) as a more suitable location for the institution's future buildings and operations. 34;The University of Nashville" became the legal style and title of the college by an act of the legislature passed November 27, 1826.
Congress ordered the whole to be settled in one body, and not to be sold for less than two dollars per acre. And even of this modest portion of Congress' intended donation, very little was ever received. The present comparative prosperity of the University, and the future security of one and some endowment, is the result of the patient labor and far-sighted sagacity of the late President, Philip Lindsley, D.
Much inconvenience has been caused by the usual arbitrary division of the students into four classes, without much regard to differences in age, talent, health, discipline, habit, or even actual knowledge. Suppose instead of four classes we create different departments or schools, with a professor at the head of each school. The professor says that he must keep his student under his own immediate control and instruction until he is qualified to enter another school, or to study under two or more professors at the same time. If students attend more than one school, the tuition fee will be distributed pro rata among the professors thus attended.
Payments for tuition must be made directly to the jointly entitled professors - and not to the university's treasurer. The Professor of Modern Languages· is to be paid from the AZ·umni grant now being made for his support; together with moderate fees for his pupils, if the above fund is not sufficient. Each professor must be responsible for his own department; and to employ such tutors or assistants as he may require, at his own expense.
It is evident that each of the above &schools or professors may be divided and sub-divided, according to the increase of students or the 1resources of the University; so that the number of professors can be reduced in the future at the discretion of the Board;. Although none shall be advanced or graduated except according to merit and in accordance with the rules to be prescribed. A commission of the Board to attend every public examination, [and daily recitals also, as far as possible] to decide upon the character and qualifications of all candidates for advancement, or for degrees, or other official evidence of attainments academic.
