Relevance to professional or academic field
Research Approach/Methodology Aim and Objectives
To identify an alternative and more effective colon cancer treatment
- Investigating antiproliperation and cell killing properties of red dragon fruit.
- Monitoring gene expression in treated cancer cells
Aims: Exploring the potential of red dragon fruit as a colon cancer
treatment
Expected Outcomes
An alternative way for cancer treatment due to numerous issues around chemotherapy using conventional chemicals which not only kills cancer cells, but healthy cells as well.
Chemotherapy also has a potential to stimulate cancer stem cells
→ new problems might be emerged
A series of test will be applied to asses how is the growth of colon cancer cells and how the proliperation will be inhibited under the extract treatment. In order to
monitor programmed cell death and which enzyme induce the action, apopotosis and caspase assay need to be carried out and any occured alteration in gene level will be analysed using gene expression analysis.
An assessment of the ability of red dragon fruit as an alternative therapy for colon cancer and the elucidation of the mechanism of action of proposed therapy at the molecular level.
Why
Benefit of using natural products:
*Natural products has less side effects
*The cost of using natural products will be much
lower than conventional cancer therapy
