Final comments and recommendations:
This manuscript describes the effect of irradiation on physic-chemical properties of oil palm empty fruit bunch. This treatment is purposed for reducing the resistant to enzymatic attack in order to produce biomass energy from glucose.
However, this paper is too general and week in introduction to convince the reader “why” this work has to be conducted. Many results are shown, but “how” it can be scientifically explained is not deeply described. The author fails to make relation between one data/evidence to others. Further and deep scientific discussion is needed to support experimental results. The data of 200 kGy is quite strange (higher crystallinity index and IR absorption) and not systematically change, but no clear clarification.
This paper is still valuable to be published with major revision. It seems that not all characterizations have to be performed in order to obtain the effect of irradiation on cellulose forming, but need deep discussion and explanation. The flow of the content/story, introduction/background, data analysis and discussion have to be re-written clearly, fluently and correctly.
