AU Orchestra Saturday concert moved to McLane Center 11/27/07

Saturday's concert by the Alfred University Orchestra has been moved to the McLane Center gymnasium. The program begins at 8 p.m., under the baton of Dr. Lisa Lantz, associate professor of music-strings and chairman of the

Performing Arts Division. AU's new director of bands, Christopher Foster, will be featured as guest soloist for the Haydn Trumpet Concerto.Also featured will be three student soloists, Jeff Benson, an Alfred State College student from Brewster, NY; Matt Philips, an AU sophomore ceramic engineering major from Kinderhook, NY; and Alejandro Miranda-Bermudezwill, an AU sophomore psychology major from Rochester, NY. They will be playing Leroy

Anderson's "Buglers' Holiday." The program is open to the public free of charge.Lantz graduated with a bachelor's degree of music from the University of Toledo, Ohio; a master's degree in music from the University of Michigan; and a doctor of music arts degree from The Ohio State University. Lantz is chairman of the Division of Performing Arts and an associate professor of music/strings. Foster directs the Concert and Jazz bands and teaches music theory and brass lessons. He has performed with the University of North Texas Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Baroque Trumpet Ensemble as a freelance musician.Foster holds bachelor of music education and master of music degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno, and has recently completed a doctor of musical arts degree in trumpet performance and wind conducting at the University of North Texas.
