Miss Greenwood is a graduate of the Massachusetts Normal Art School and has been teaching for some time with success at James Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois. The year was made remarkable in the appropriation by the Legislature of the sum of $25,000 for the much needed extension and heating. Forty students were registered during the year and work in the classes continued vigorously.
At the American Ceramics Association convention in March, your director presented two papers and Mr. At the meeting of the International Congress of Applied Chemistry in New York in September, 1912, a paper will be read by your director, which had been prepared by him in the past. year, in collaboration with one of the students. The demand for school leavers continues to increase and good reports are received from those who have entered their work.
The mail received by the school is sometimes very large, and in the near future it will be necessary to provide for a secretary and a stenographer who can devote all her time to office work. In the past, he was a dependent student who could only spend part of his time at the desk. Your Principal would again like to express his duty to the faculty of Alfred University, who have all along cordially cooperated in the work of the school.
A significant number of necessary assessments of the farm and school buildings were carried out during the year. An extension has been built to the main barn of the farm in the form of a tool store and an exercise barn for livestock. An additional laboratory was created in the basement of the dairy building by excavating part of the unfinished section and relocating the power plant.
Minor changes have also been made to the working space of the greenhouse, which greatly contributes to its convenience and usability. Plans are now being considered for a small pig and poultry house, which will be built in a few months. A concrete plan has been drawn up for crop rotation on the farm, and it is followed as closely as possible.
But little change has been made in the stock except the additions due to natural increase. The third annual catalogue, giving a list of students and showing slight changes in the course of study, was published, also a pamphlet of sixteen pages giving general information about the School. In addition, data on experimental work of local interest was provided to local newspapers and the Agricultural Press.
