PROSES PEMBENTUKAN BATU GAMPING
Proses pembentukan batu gamping sendiri terjadi secara berbeda beda
menyesuaikan dengan lingkungannya seperti laut dan lingkungan evaporasi:
• 1. Proses Pembentukan Batu Gamping di Lingkungan Laut
Umumnya, proses pembentukan batu gamping terjadi di laut dangkal yang tenang serta hangat. Ini menjadi lingkungan yang ideal sebab organisme bisa membentuk cangkang kalsium karbonat serta skeleton untuk sumber bahan membentuk batu gamping.
• 2. Proses Pembentukan Batu Gamping di Lingkungan Evaporasi
Batu gamping bisajuga terbentuk lewat proses penguapan. Stalakmit, stalaktit serta formasi dari gua lain yang biasa disebut dengan speleothems menjadi contoh batu gamping yang terbentuk dari penguapan. Tetesan air pada gua nantinya akan masuk dari atas gua lewat tekanan atau ruang pori pada langit langit gua lalu akan menguap kembali sebelum menyentuh dasar gua.
Jenis batuan ini biasanya terbentuk di pantai
tempat terjadinya pemisahan fragmen cangkang berukuran sama aibat gelombang laut.

membentuk permukaan yang halus.

CIRI – CIRI FISIK BATU GAMPING
Batu gamping yang biasa disebut juga dengan batu kapur terbentuk dari beberapa hwan bercangkang
lunak seperti kering, siput serta hewan lain yang sudah mati. Rangka hewan yang terbuat dari kapur
tersebut tidak musnah akan tetapi semakin memadat dan akhirnya membentuk batu gamping.
Ciri – Ciri Fisiknya:
1. Teksturnya agak lunak dibandingkan jenis batu gamping lainnya.
2. Memiliki warna putih agak abu abu dan membentuk gas karbon dioksida apabila ditetesi dengan asam.
3. Memiliki bidang belahan yang tidak teratur.
