LIST OF:= HEADINGS Brain and chest scanning ii Role of computers iii CT scan invented iv High cost of CT scans. While the original CT scans took Hounsfield several hours to reconstruct into a useful image, today's machines can produce a deep image in a fraction of a second. When it passes through dense tissue such as bone, the X-ray beam is weak and appears white on CT images.
Once the information is processed, it is displayed on a monitor for radiologists and physicians to analyze.3 The information is also stored and printed to be kept in the physician's records and to be shared and discussed with patients and their family. Doctors order CT scans for a number of different reasons, including looking for and evaluating tumors, cysts, kidney stones, and bone injuries. In many cases, especially in the detection of tumors and internal bleeding, CT scans provide information that can save a person's life.

In novel form, approximately 300,000 copies of the story were sold in the first year, paving the way for the new fashion in America. Surrounding each black hole is an "event horizon" which defines the area over which the black hole's gravitational force acts. Anything that passes over the lip of the event horizon is pulled into the black hole.
And just recently, one intermediate black hole with about 500 times the mass of the sun was discovered. The black hole at the center of the Milky Way, known as Sagittarius A* (pronounced "A-star"), is supermassive and contains about four million times the mass of our sun. One possible theory to explain this is that a process called "dynamical friction" causes stellar black holes to sink towards the center of the galaxy.

The Gulf Stream splits as it travels, but most of the flow moves north and east. After the Gulf Stream reaches southeastern Greenland and western Iceland, most of the heat of the stream is dissipated, and the cooler, denser water then sinks. Most of the Gulf Stream descends to the bottom of the ocean in seven large eddies, called chimneys.
Projections of the effects of global warming on the Gulf Stream are based on computer models, which vary somewhat. There would be little time to prepare for the devastating changes resulting from the weakening of the Gulf Stream. 5 In 2007, the number of eddies, or chimneys, that pulled Gulf Stream waters down toward the ocean floor was.

Scientists have observed wild New Caledonian crows making hooks out of twigs to pull piles out of tree holes that are too deep for their beaks. New Caledonian crows sometimes use their beaks to make small spears from leaves for col. Alex Kacelnik, one of the researchers who worked with the crows, noted that they had solved a new problem by doing something they had never done before.
Over time, more and more crows flocked together and cawed at anyone wearing the caveman mask, regardless of the size, gender and skin color of the mask wearer and whether the wearer was one of the researchers who had originally captured crows. Crows that were not originally captured joined in the intimidation of the perceived threat. When Marzloff suggested that researchers try wearing the caveman mask upside down, some crows even turned their heads upside down to better identify the "enemy's" face.
