Cooling and Ventilation

The required cooling air flow can be obtained by calculating the dimensions of the air inlet and outlet fins. The window area of the room should not be smaller than the area of the radiator matrix. Stationary or moving roller shutter systems can be installed within these windows to protect air ducts.

For an automatic generator set; the best solution for this purpose is an automatic shutter system which is designed to open automatically when the engine is started. However, manually opened sliding shutters may be acceptable in some manual mode generator set applications.

Exhaust System

Fuel System

  • Storage of Diesel Fuel

Also, a valve or a drain point must be used at a lower end of the fuel tank, to be able to drain the water that may occur as a result of condensation. The fuel tank must be buried at a proper depth, so that the fuel must be protected from the icy climatic conditions. Also note that excessive use of horizontal pipes or elbow pipes will lower the fuel pressure on the suction line.

For all these reasons; the locations of the fuel tanks and the pipelines to be carried out between them must be calculated and placed well and carefully. Fuel return lines should always enter the tank from a point above the highest expected fuel level and there should be no breaks or valves in the fuel return line. To avoid any potential air entrapment problems, the fuel return line should be designed and piped to a minimum length and with minimum elbow/bend points.

To ensure that the fuel supplied to the engine is clean enough, the fuel supplied to the engine must not be taken from a height lower than 50 mm from the base of the tank. To avoid any possible risks caused by the vibrations on the generator set, the fuel lines must be constructed with flexible pipes at the inlet points of the generator set.

Electrical Connections

  • Starter Batteries

The electrical resistance on the starting circuit is a very important parameter for the operation of the diesel engine. In this way, the battery connections will be shorter and their resistance will be lower. Batteries should always be well maintained and kept in good condition so that the generator set can be ready to run at any time.

Maintenance activities to be performed on batteries are briefly explained in the relevant sections below. Any dirt or oxidation left on the battery, terminals or connections will cause battery discharge and voltage drop. Reconnect the cables tightly to the terminals and use grease on these connections to expose the oxidation.

The batteries of generator sets that are stored for a longer period of time must be removed and kept charged. Otherwise, the battery plates will be damaged and the batteries will be out of service.

Introduction

Manual and Automatic Control Panel

AUTO: This mode is used to run the generator automatically and transfer the load between the mains &. Then the generator set contactor opens, the mains contactor closes and the load starts to be fed back from the mains again. When the engine is finally stopped, the generator set returns to its "standby" rest position to wait for the next mains failure.

If the operation of the generator set is blocked by a weekly schedule, the AUTO link will flash and the operation of the generator set will be as in STOP mode. TEST: This mode is used to test the generator with or without load while mains is still available. When this mode is selected on the controller; the operation of the generator is similar to the AUTO mode, but the mains contactor will not be opened if the mains is available.

And if the grid is not available, the grid contactor opens and the generator set contactor closes. RUN: This mode is used to operate the generator with or without load while the grid is still available or if there is no grid at all.

Basic Procedures To Be Followed Before Operation

Check all emergency stop buttons and make sure they are all in the ON position. If all the results of all these checks are normal, you can finally run your generator set on load. Also, be sure not to exceed your generator set's capacity in terms of load capacity.

The safety precautions explained in the Operation and Maintenance Manual must be observed before operating the generator set after all necessary installation has been fully and properly performed. When removing the battery, disconnect the negative (-) lead first, and when placing a battery in service on a generator set, connect the negative lead last due to the fact that the battery system is grounded from the negative. The generator set will not start if any emergency stop button is pressed, turn them all on by pulling clockwise.

DO NOT start or stop the generator set while it is still under load (when the load switch is in the ON position). Daily, weekly, monthly, annual or related maintenance periods of the generator set must be carefully followed and observed in order to achieve efficiency and safety of operation.

Battery Charger

The fuel, lubricating oil and coolant quality level must meet the standards prescribed by the manufacturer. Turn off the battery charger before removing any battery connection to avoid any arcing or sparking possibility. If the temperature of batteries rises above 52°C, it can cause damage to the batteries.

This fact must be taken into account especially in tropical countries; the charger and batteries should be placed in a cool and shady place. In addition to these chargers, a charger alternator can be used on the motorcycle to charge the batteries.

Maintenance of Batteries

Pure or distilled water is used in the electrolyte solution, so the water to be added to the battery must also be pure water. Add pure or distilled water to a height of 5-10 mm above the plates, close and tighten the top cap. Check the operating range of the batteries before installation, especially in terms of temperature (between -5°C and 50°C).

Incorrect selections will affect battery operation, performance and life due to freezing or boiling problems. Do not smoke and ensure that there are no sparks/flames near the batteries; flammable gases may be released.

Maintenance of Radiator

The radiator can be immersed in an alkaline solution in case of stronger sediments. The radiator should be washed with hot water after waiting at least 20 minutes in this solution.

Low Load Operation

If the temperature of the engine body is not at a proper value, the lubrication inside the engine will not be done properly, so it will cause more corrosion on moving components. Due to loss of combustion performance, unburnt fuel mixing with oil in the cylinder causes the oil to deteriorate. If the fuel cannot be burned properly in cylinders, it can be emitted as a white smoke from the exhaust line.

Long Term Storage

Immerse the fuel inlet and return channels in a pot containing 1/3 protective oil (JIS K2246 NP9) and in a pot containing 2/3 diesel oil mixture. Drain the fuel system and connect the fuel intake and return lines to their normal locations. Spray protective oil on the valve, valve spring, valve guide, cylinder head and rocker arm, then close the cylinder head cover again.

Remove the cover from the generator and remove the seal from the air inlet and exhaust outlet. Ensure that installation according to the regulations and commissioning procedures are completed before the generator is put into operation. Lubricate the valve, valve spring, valve guide, cylinder head and rocker arm, then close the valve covers again.

If moisture is found to be present in the storage environment, stator winding insulation tests should be performed before operating the generator. If the measured value is less than 5 megohms, the generator should be cleaned, dried and tested again.

General Maintenance Schedule

General

Start-up approval and the start-up process should be carried out by Teksan dealers or their authorized representatives. A sufficient quantity of lubricating oil, coolant or additives with the specifications specified in the Maintenance and Operation Manual must be used. If you want to change the position of the generator set, you must notify the Teksan dealer or authorized representatives.

Original spare parts and consumable items (oil, fuel, filter, tire etc.) approved by Teksan must be used. Periodic maintenance, checks and settings must be made strictly according to maintenance and operation manuals. Any errors were the result of deleting, removing or changing the tags belonging to Generator Set.

Requests for warranty service should be directed to the Texan dealer or authorized representative who performed the commissioning process. Any operation required to correct the failure must be done after Texan's written approval.
