The story of the Samaritan woman found in John provides a practical example of personal evangelism. Because of the consequence of idolatry (Deuteronomy 4:13-20) and the promised mercy when Israel was obedient (Deuteronomy 4:31), Moses parted with Israel. When you go, make disciples.” The order of the Church is not simply to go;.

Understanding the centrality of Jerusalem to the expansion of the gospel influences one's understanding of the importance of personal evangelism and urban mission. Before the disciples became witnesses in the remote parts of the world, they first preached the gospel in Jerusalem (Acts 2:14-47). Believers today must be helped by the power of the Holy Spirit so that hearts and minds are receptive to the gospel.

Approaches to preaching the gospel in the twenty-first century must adapt to the postmodern mindset of the population. The more you grow spiritually, the more you become involved in the life of the church. Kennedy suggests that becoming a friend is the most important aspect of personal evangelism: “The most important goal of an introduction is to establish friendship.

Does the listener connect with the message?'"49 Personal evangelism must be dialogical, where the unbeliever can share this understanding of the gospel presentation. The goals of the training were (1) to increase biblical knowledge related to evangelism, (2) to improve evangelistic skills, (3) to increase participation in personal evangelism, and (4) to increase responsibility in evangelism. The third objective was to use the curriculum to improve the understanding of the gospel and the practice of personal evangelism of the selected members.

In thinking about this project, I am convinced that there is a great need to train believers for personal evangelism. As mentioned in chapter 2, one of the challenges of Christianity in America is the emphasis on the word "go" to make disciples - all too often believers prioritize going to a foreign land to preach the gospel and miss opportunities to make disciples in their community. Examining this passage was helpful because it reminded me of the need to take witnesses personally, as it is my responsibility as a believer.

I have focused this project on personal evangelism because personal evangelism can help draw more people to Christ and local churches. This project also reminded me of the need to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to soften hearts by getting active and making disciples. This project was completed to help Uplift Church members make personal evangelism a part of their daily lives.

The survey you will participate in is designed to assess your current understanding of personal evangelism. At the end of the course, participants will be able to practice personal evangelism in their daily lives. How does your view of the Gospel affect your view of people who have never heard the Gospel.

What, if anything, did you do last week as a result of the gospel lesson. What, if anything, did you do differently this past week as a result of the lesson on evangelism. What, if anything, did you do this past week as a result of the lesson on personal evangelism.

Do you think some people choose not to share the gospel because of the possibility of rejection, if so why. Ask them to share one thing they hope to get out of the coming weeks, or simply why they decided to participate in the survey. The goal of this group is to help believers practice personal evangelism in their daily lives.

NOTES

Evangelism

When participants arrive, allow time to discuss the first question, or more if time permits. Question: What, if anything, did you do last week as a result of the gospel lesson? In the Septuagint, the word evangelizo is generally used to preach the news of something good that has happened to save people from destruction.

Here we see the women at the tomb expecting to find Christ's body still in the tomb. The angel of the Lord shared with them the good news that Jesus had risen and. Sharing the good news about Jesus was not limited to the angel's instructions to the women at the tomb.

Jesus commanded all disciples to go and make disciples, and part of disciple-making involves telling the story of Jesus' death, burial, and the good news of his resurrection.

Personal Evangelism as A Way of Life

Question: What, if anything, did you do last week as a result of the lesson on evangelism? Question: When you hear the words "personal evangelism as a way of life," what do you think of? Question: Has there ever been an opportunity to preach the gospel that you didn't?

Question: If you were given the opportunity to share the Gospel this week, how would you respond?

Sharing Your Testimony

Question: What, if anything, did you do last week as a result of the lesson on personal evangelism. Last session we looked at John 4 and we saw how Jesus responds to an opportunity to share the gospel. To be an effective witness, one must be able to share what has happened personally as a result of believing in the gospel.

Paul's effectiveness was not from his public speaking, but from his personal testimony and influence. Question: Considering the story of the woman at the well in John 4:39 who might your testimony appeal to the most and why. Prayer: Every day for the next week pray for the courage to share with him your personal testimony of salvation.

Connecting the Dots

Question: After you have shared the Gospel with someone and led them to Christ, there is more to do. Some Christians are reluctant to share the gospel with others for fear of rejection or do not feel adequately equipped to respond to a possible rebuttal. We must remember that it is our responsibility to share the gospel and not change minds and hearts to hear and receive it.

Once the gospel has been shared and the Holy Spirit has changed a person's mind and heart, there is a need to repent of sins and trust in Christ. The apostle Paul sheds light on the role of godly sorrow when confronting those about sinfulness. In Acts we see a practical example of Philip responding to the opportunity to share the gospel and the Ethiopian's response to hearing the gospel and wanting baptism.

Question: Looking at Acts 2:42-44, what role does the local church play after a person has heard the gospel and received salvation? Take Action: Name three people for whom you will pray and make a point to share the gospel with.

Handling Objection

Question: Do you think some people choose not to share the gospel because of the possibility of rejection, if so why? Whenever we preach the gospel, it is important to know that objections may arise, but we must remember that the Holy Spirit works on a person's mind and heart, we are responsible for simply preaching the gospel as a witness of Christ. Knowing this helps us understand that a person may object because they have been spiritually blinded.

My commitment to Jesus Christ is important in my life

It is only the responsibility of the pastor to tell people about Jesus

Millennials (18-35-year olds) are more technologically savvy than previous generations

Christians should ask others about their relationship with God

I purposefully share my faith with others

I live in obedience to the will of God

While only one participant initially agreed that he or she lived in obedience to the will of God, after the project that participant believed that he or she lived somewhat in obedience.

Millennials are NOT very spiritual

My personal testimony can help draw others to Christ

Jesus is the only way to salvation

The curriculum dealt with Christian responsibility and part of that responsibility was to preach the gospel to others. The lesson on the gospel and evangelism may have contributed to the participants gaining more assurance and conviction about Jesus as the only way to salvation.

Millennials seek God less than previous generations

Christians should attend church regularly

Millennials get most of their news via the internet

My Christian faith is important in my daily life

Millennials are more willing to share their personal life via social media than previous generations

Post-test results showed that a majority, 67 percent of participants, agreed that millennials were more willing to share personal information via social media than previous generations.

Studying the Bible is important for Christian growth

I am hesitant to share my testimony with others

Millennials are more likely to commit to a church than previous generations
