CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Apprenticeship

Bengkalis State Polytechnic is a State University in Bengkalis Regency, which was founded in 2000 by the Bengkalis Regency Government. The total number of study programs in the Bengkalis State Polytechnic is 18 (eighteen) study programs.

Which consists of 2 (two) educational levels, namely Diploma 3 (three) and Diploma 4 (four), for the Diploma 3 (three) Study Program consisting of Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Informatics Engineering, Business English, Nautical and Commercial Shipping Management, and for Diploma 4 (four) Study Programs consisting of Production and Maintenance Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Electrical Engineering, Road and Bridge Design Engineering, Software Engineering, Public Financial Accounting, and International Business Administration.

International Business Administration is one of the study programs at the Bengkalis State Polytechnic. The curriculum contained in this department is more directed to the Business and Office Sector. It has the aim of creating skilled and expert Human Resources (HR) in the field of business and offices. One of the activities that have been carried out based on the curriculum is Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship is a learning process by knowing firsthand the scope of the real world of work, with Apprenticeship students can increase their knowledge, skills, and experience at work. The Apprenticeship Activity is one of the student activities of the Bengkalis State Polytechnic in completing their studies and this activity is mandatory for all students at the Bengkalis State Polytechnic.

Based on the above, the author as a student of the International Business Administration Study Program is required to carry out Apprenticeship activities and

2 on this occasion the author has chosen the Immigration Office Class I Pekanbaru as a place to carry out Apprenticeship activities for 4 (four) months or approximately 20 (twenty) weeks. Starting from February 15, 2021 until June 30, 2021. The author's reason for choosing the Pekanbaru Class I Immigration Office as a practical work place is to find out all documents or licensing requirements and administrative supervision of Foreign Citizens (WNA). This is very important as additional knowledge for future writers when doing business cooperation with foreigners. The implementation of the Apprenticeship is expected to increase the author's knowledge about various good and correct implementation of tasks and be able to face the real world of work with the experience gained.

1.2 Purposes of the Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship is one of the requirements for State Polytechnic of Bengkalis students in completing their studies. To achieve the expected results, The objectives of the implementation of Apprenticeship which was carried out at the Immigration Office – Class I Pekanbaru are as follows:

1. To know the kind of business (the main tasks and functions) at the Immigration Office Class I Pekanbaru

2. To know the working process at the Immigration Office Class I Pekanbaru 3. To know documents used in the work process at the Immigration Office Class I

4. To know the job description of the work field being handled at the Immigration Office Class I Pekanbaru

5. To know the system and procedures for Apprenticeship used in carrying out work on Immigration Office Class I Pekanbaru

6. To know the obstacles faced in completing the work at the Immigration Office Class I Pekanbaru and how to overcome these obstacles.

7. To know solutions in dealing with obstacles during Apprenticeship at the Immigration Office Class I Pekanbaru

3 1.3 Significances of the Apprenticeship

The benefits obtained from the implementation of the Apprenticeship are as follows:

1. For students

a. Students know more about the work schedule at the Immigration Office Class I Pekanbaru

b. Students get the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge and concepts according to the study program in the real world of work B

c. Students can improve their skills, abilities, loyalty, and positive attitude at work

2. For Bengkalis State Polytechnic

a. Student apprenticeship can strengthen cooperation and socialization between the Bengkalis State Polytechnic and the Immigration Office Class I Pekanbaru and can continue to send the next student for apprenticeship at the company

b. Student apprenticeship can improve the competence of Bengkalis State Polytechnic graduates

3. For Agencies/Companies

a. The company gets assistance with the presence of students who do apprenticeship

b. The existence of apprenticeship is an opportunity for companies to promote the image and perspective of the office to the public
