Students' understanding of the correlation between reading habit and critical thinking skills is still lacking. First, the problem is limited to the reading habit of eleventh graders of SMA Negeri 12 Rejang Lebong.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Definition Reading

It can therefore be concluded that reading is the activity of seeing the writing and the process of understanding the content of the writing aimed at obtaining information. However, reading is not only seeing or speaking written, but also involves activities such as visual and thinking.

Kinds of Reading

According to Brown, intensive reading is usually a classroom-oriented activity in which students focus on the linguistic or semantic details of a passage. Intensive reading directs students' attention to grammatical forms, discourse markers, and other details of surface structure in order to understand literal meaning, implication, and rhetorical relationship, while extensive reading is done to achieve general understanding of a usually somewhat longer text, otherwise extensive reading refers to texts that span more than a page, up to and including professional articles, essays, technical reports, etc. short stories and books.

Types of Reading

Intensive reading calls students' attention to grammatical forms, discourse markers, and other surface structure details for the purpose of understanding literal meaning, implications, and rhetorical coherence, while extensive reading is done to gain a general understanding of a usually somewhat longer text. Intensive reading is reading shorter text (anecdotes, short stories, descriptions, etc.) to extract specific information.

Reading Comprehension

The text they read may be entirely of their own choosing or to some extent chosen by the teacher. Thus, in the understanding of a topic, the readers interaction with the text is related to the question of the text to previous experiences of construct meaning that can be found in the text.

Teaching Reading

Third, students should be encouraged to respond to the content of a reading text, not just the language. So, in teaching reading, students need to have more practice so that the information of the written text is distributed to the students.

Reading as a Habit

Reading habits usually begin with students' interest and can be seen from students' behavior towards reading (Sibatuara, 2019). Without anyone informing you, interest is a feeling of liking or interest in something or an activity. Interest can be seen from the aspect of attention, pleasure, enjoyment and satisfaction as a stimulus for one's actions and actions.

Benefits of Reading Habit

Hobby is an activity carried out because someone derives joy and satisfaction from it, leisure as an activity that distracts or entertains or stimulates and concentration as a power solution when reading. Practicing reading as a hobby helps a person to become versatile in knowledge in many fields and the person can discuss knowledge issues with others.

In a family context, motivation is linked to a person's desire to acquire books, as well as the family's interest in reading. f). In an academic environment, motivation is linked to the teacher's instruction in reading books (Gaona &.

Degree to which the logical flow of ideas and the explicitness of the plan are clear and connected: 1. This paragraph serves as the last paragraph of the writing and is always at the end of the text. A person who has the habit of reading can be seen by the attitude of the person while reading, how often the person reads in his daily life, how many books or other academic reading is read, how much free time is used for academic and non-academic reading, and how often the urge to read is incorporated, both in a family and academic environment (Diem & Atmanegara, 2015).

Reading a lot will make a person more open-minded, so their critical thinking skills will increase. High critical thinking means that a person always argues with reliable theories, has a skeptical and analytical attitude, never hesitates in expressing his opinions, always finds out and evaluates the truth of the information he receives, and has a broad and more open mind.

Review of Some Previous Studies

Second, the study conducted by Barokah and Kesuma in 2020 titled "The Impact of News Reading Habit on Critical Thinking Skills in Public Secondary School Students in Langsa City". It would examine the regression relationship between news reading habit and critical thinking skills in high school students. This study found that news reading has an impact on students' critical thinking skills as measured by a T-test.

Third, a study conducted by Anggraini, Sawiji, and Susanti in 2020 titled "Effect of Reading Habit and Self-Esteem on Critical Thinking Skills of PAP Students in SIM Courses". This study used a quantitative Fourth, a study conducted by Fitrianti, Purwanti and Sularmi in 2020 entitled “Correlation between learning styles and reading habit with critical thinking skills in primary school social studies learning”.

Also, based on the answers to the questionnaire, the researcher would assess the students' reading habits. By categorizing the students' answers in the questionnaire, the researcher would categorize their reading habit into multiple categories. The first component is the focus on measuring the level of truth and clarity of the main idea or theme of a topic or topic in an essay or writing.

The second is supporting reasons to see the level of truth, clarity, reliability, credibility of the supporting reasons or evidence as well as reference sources. Fourth, the organization shows the level of clarity and connection between the flow of thought and the firmness of the plan.

In this chapter, the researcher investigates whether there is a significant relationship between students' reading habits and critical thinking skills. The researcher analyzed the students' reading habits based on the results of the questionnaire and critical thinking skills based on the results of the writing test. Thus, we can conclude that there is a significant higher correlation between the reading habit and critical thinking variables.

The results of the data collection were then used as material to test the correlation between reading habit and critical thinking skills. It can be concluded that there is a significant between reading habits and critical thinking skills of eleventh grade students at SMAN 12 Rejang Lebong with a high correlation.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

Questionnaire Data Analysis

The analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 to test the instrument's reliability. Based on table 4.1 above, it is known that the result of the reliability test value is 0.855. Based on the questionnaire data, statistical descriptive analysis was also performed with SPSS 22.0.

Based on the table above, it can be seen that the minimum score for students' reading habits was 54 and the maximum was 95. Based on the table 3.3 of students' reading habits interval scores above, students of grade XI IPA SMAN 12 Rejang Lebong can be categorized as a good reading habit. The graph of students'.

Critical Thinking Analysis

Based on the test results for critical thinking in table 4.3, a statistical descriptive analysis was also carried out using SPSS 22.0. From the above table, it can be seen that the minimum score for the writing test was 45 and the maximum was 78. From the score range, the students' critical thinking skills through the writing test in class XI IPA SMA Negeri 12 Rejang Lebong can be fair.

Correlation Analysis

Based on the above table it showed that the significant level for the reading habit variable is 0.962 > 0.05 and the critical thinking variable is 0.243 >. It has a correlation coefficient of 0.615, this indicates that the correlation coefficient is in the range with a high correlation interpretation. In other words, there is a significant correlation between reading habit and critical thinking skills in eleventh grade students.

Table  4.6  showed  that  the  significance  level  of  deviation from linearity is 0.723 > 0.05

The Description of Students’ Reading Habit and

Thirty students were surveyed to learn more about their reading habits and critical thinking skills. Most students with good reading habits have good critical thinking skills, students with poor reading habits.

Discussion

It can therefore be said that there is a significant correlation between students' reading habits and critical thinking skills in eleventh grade students at SMAN 12 Rejang Lebong with a high correlation. The results of the study found that there was a significant positive effect between reading culture and students' critical thinking skills with P-value (0.001). The results showed that: (1) there was a significant positive effect of reading habits on critical thinking skills of 2017 PAP students in the Management Information System course (t-score (5.110) > t-table (1.999)).

From the above explanation, the researcher found that there is a significant positive correlation between students' reading habits and critical thinking skills. It can be concluded that there is a significant positive correlation between reading habits and critical thinking skills of eleventh grade science students at SMAN 12 Rejang Lebong with a high correlation.

Suggestion

Based on the results of the correlation test using Pearson Product Moment analysis with SPSS 22.0 application program, it was obtained sig (2-tailed) 0.00 <. To improve reading habits, teachers are expected to always instill reading habits in their students. Meanwhile, in order to improve critical thinking, teachers are expected to always conduct writing or discussion activities for their students so that students' critical thinking skills can be enhanced.

The results of this research are expected to provide a reference in the preparation of further research or the development of research with the same title with a view to perfecting the research, so that the results obtained will be better and will form the basis for further research.
