Colla appointed vice president for University Relations 12/05/07

Stanley A. Colla, Jr. of Hanover, NH, has been appointed vice president for University Relations at Alfred University, President Charles M. Edmondson announced today. He will assume his new duties in January."I am pleased Stan Colla accepted this position," said Edmondson. "He will bring to Alfred University the breadth of experience in alumni relations and development we want to continue with our ambitious goals for the University."Colla is a principal in Colla Associates, a consulting firm he and his wife, Dr. Judith B. Colla, founded in 2005 that coaches non-profit organizations on advancement-related issues. He has more than 20 years' experience in fundraising and alumni relations, including 12 years as a vice president at Dartmouth College. He was vice president for Development and Alumni Relations from 1993 to 2001 and vice president for Alumni Affairs from 2001 to 2005. He has also been director of the alumni fund, 1991-1993; director of information resources, 1989-1991; acting director of external relations for the Hopkins Center and the Hood Museum; and associate director of capital giving, 1986-1989, all at Dartmouth. "I am delighted and privileged to accept this appointment as vice president for University Relations at Alfred University," said Colla. "Alfred is a venerable institution with a robust reputation and an exciting future. It enjoys the strong leadership of President Edmondson and the Trustees. It benefits from the contributions of talented and dedicated faculty and staff. It has the support of proud and loyal alumni, parents, and friends. I look forward to working with them all to help Alfred University achieve its full promise."As vice president for University Relations, Colla will be responsible for Alfred University's alumni relations, communications, and development efforts. As he announced Colla's appointment, President Edmondson also extended his appreciation and that of the University to Dr.

Sylvia Bryant, who has been interim vice president for 18 months since Michael E. Hyde resigned to take a vice president's position at Jackson Laboratories in Bar Harbor, ME."It would be remiss of me not to use this occasion to voice our gratitude to Sylvia Bryant," he said. "She has led the division capably as we completed the campaign and laid the foundations for several initiatives that lie ahead. Dr. Bryant's loyalty to the institution, to her colleagues, and to the ethics of leadership merit high praise and the gratitude of each of us."Colla has been a presenter at many regional conferences in his field. He serves on the Vermont Academy Board of Trustees and chairs its development committee.

He is also a member of the Hanover Improvement Society. Colla previously served as a member of the New

Hampshire Postsecondary Education Commission, 2000-2007; the Private Colleges and Universities Alumni Directors, 2004-2007; the Dartmouth Alumni Association's secretary-treasurer, 2005-2007; the Dartmouth-United Kingdom Trust president, 1996-2005; and the Mountain School Advisory Board, 2001-2004.A 1972 graduate of Dartmouth College with a degree in English and philosophy and a 1976 graduate of Harvard University with a master's in education, Colla taught English at Vermont Academy, Saxtons River, VT, and then at Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Kamuela, HI, where he served as head of the Upper School before returning to Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business to earn an MBA degree in 1986.He received an honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1970 after serving in Viet Nam. Colla and his wife have two sons, Geoffrey, who makes his home in San Francisco, and Timothy who resides in New York City.
