THEORETICAL REVIEW

The Concept of Reading

  • The Definition of Reading
  • Types of Reading

According to, Jean Wallace Gillet explains that reading comprehension is the search for meaning by actively using our knowledge of the word and the text to understand each new thing we read.8. Based on the above explanation, the researcher concludes that reading comprehension is an activity to obtain information from the text with skill and effectiveness. Brown explains that extensive reading is done to gain a general understanding of a text that is usually somewhat longer (book, long article or essay, etc.). satisfaction;

One of the basic conditions of successful extensive reading is that students read the material they can. If they have difficulty understanding every word, they can hardly read for pleasure the main purpose of this activity. 11. Brown explains that intensive reading is usually a classroom-oriented activity in which students focus on the linguistic or semantic details of the passage.

The Concept of Reading Comprehension

Independent variable of this research is the Imaging which can be defined as the strategy that can make. the students to study reading comprehension more easily in the class. At the end of this step, the researcher conducted post-test to know the result of the treatment. The Condition of Teacher and Official Employees Table 4. The Condition of Teacher and Official Employees in SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro.

The researcher gave a pre-test to the students to see how far the students' reading comprehension had advanced before the treatment. Right here on the first page it says "The rabbit was once boasting of his speed". The researcher gave the clue until the last page. The students seemed very enthusiastic to read the text.

The Concept of Imaging Strategy

  • Definition of Imaging Strategy
  • The Principles of Imaging Strategy

Here, the researcher was a teacher, and the English teacher was a collaborator who observes the students' activities during the teaching of the learning process. The researcher found that the students had difficulty finding the main idea and completing the text. Based on the results of the learning process in two cycles, the researcher wants to describe the conclusion that reading comprehension could be improved by using a picture strategy.

The Procedures of Imaging Strategy

Advantages and Disadvantages of Imaging Strategy

The use of imaging strategy links the information from the text to the reader's own background experiences. The implementation of the imaging strategy provides a memory strategy that improves recall and understanding of the text. The vividness of the imaging strategy activated during the reading process increases reading engagement, possibly because imaging relies heavily on the activation and use of past experiences.

The students' ability to imagine the climax of the story from the information is not conclusive evidence that imagery improves the reader's understanding of the overall story. The selection of the reading text is complicated because the pictorial strategy requires a text that contains an understandable set of story scenes.

Action Hypothesis

The method of measuring the dependent variable is with a written test, and the measuring instrument is items with a score range of 0-100. An independent variable is a variable that is the main variable to be investigated. The independent variable of this research is Imaging, which can be defined as a strategy that can do.

The researcher has finished class 8B, which consists of 24 students who still have little reading comprehension and some difficulty learning to read. The students of this study are twenty-four students of class VIII of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro. The researcher chose this class because most students score low on English lessons, especially on reading.

The comparison of the average mark of the students at pre-test, post-test I and post-test II. Based on the results of the students' pre-test, only students passed the Standard Minimum criteria which was 70. Nevertheless, there was an improvement point of the students after test I as pre-test point.

Description of Research Data

  • Action and Learning Activity in cycle I
  • Action and Learning Activity in cycle II

In this step, the researcher prepared the curriculum, materials and media that will be used in the learning process of teaching. The in-class condition was less effective because the researcher handed over to the class to ascertain student performance before the researcher conducted the in-class research. It was shown that some students paid the researcher full attention during the learning process.

Next, the researcher asked the students to read a text about The Tortoise and the Hare, after which the researcher asked the student about the text. do you understand this story?". Then, at the end of this meeting the researcher gave cycle 1 post-test with the similar task in the pre-test before. Based on the above analysis, the researcher concluded that this research should continue in cycle II.

In addition, the researcher made an observation sheet consisting of a list of students' names and a list of student activities to be observed during the learning process. It means that the time was over and the researcher ended the lesson and reminded the students to study again for the narrative text. Based on the problem encountered in the first cycle, the researcher has made a lesson plan focusing on it, she has also prepared the student's observation sheet.

After that, the researcher gave a posttest cycle II with a similar task to the posttest cycle I before. The observation was carried out by a researcher who is presented at meeting II in cycle II. This happened because the teacher and the researcher revised and improved the teaching and learning process in the 1st cycle. In II.

Interpretation

  • The Result of Pre test
  • Action and Learning Result at Cycle I
  • Action and Learning Result at Cycle II
  • The Result of the Students’ Activity

The result of Cycle II is better than Cycle I, it can be seen that most of the students have no difficulty in finding the main idea and drawing the conclusion of the text. The average grade of pre-test and post-test I above shows that there was an improvement in the speaking skills of the students. The average mark in pre-test is 52, improved to 65 in post-test I, so there are 13 points improved.

The table above shows that there was an improvement from post-test I to post-test II. In addition, there is a significant improvement in student learning product from pre-test to post-test II. It was seen in pre-test in which mean score was 52, in post-test I mean score was 65 and in post-test II mean score was 76.
