The SBSTA welcomed IPCC decisions IPCC/XLIII-6, IPCC/XLIII-7 and IPCC/XLIII-82, which list the upcoming deliverables of the sixth IPCC assessment cycle, including a special IPCC report to be prepared in 2018 on the consequences of global warming of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission trajectories, which need to be prepared in the context of a stronger global response to the threat of climate change, sustainable development and efforts to eradicate poverty rowing, which will be relevant for the first global inventory. The SBSTA noted that lessons can be learned from past experience with regard to advice on how the IPCC assessments can inform the global inventory.3 It invited parties and observer organizations, taking into account relevant experience, submit their views by 12 September 2016 on advice on how the IPCC assessments can inform the global inventory, taking into account the time frame of the sixth IPCC assessment cycle.4 taking into account the relevant work of the ad hoc Working Group for the Paris Agreement on the Global Inventory.

In light of the mandate referred to in paragraphs 1 and 2 above, the SBSTA and the SBI agreed to further consider and refine the scope of the next periodic review at their forty-sixth sessions (May 2017) , taking into account relevant experiences with the 2013–2015 review. The SBSTA and the SBI noted that an in-session workshop on the scope of the next periodic review might be useful and that they could consider the matter further during their forty-sixth sessions.

The SBI and SBSTA considered the estimated budgetary implications of the actions to be taken by the secretariat referred to in paragraphs 4, 5 and 6 above.
