STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION TOWARDS LEARNING: THE INFLUENCE OF INPUTS AND PROCESS DIMENSIONS IN SCHOOL-BASED ASSESSMENT

Abstract: Students’ motivation towards learning comes from inside of oneself which seems to be an important factor in determining success. The material and personal needs (input dimension), the teachers’ knowledge and attitude, and challenges faced by the teachers regarding school-based assessment (the process dimension) are considered to have an influence on students’ motivation towards learning. This study is conducted to explore the degree of influence of factors regarding school-based assessment implementation on students’ motivation towards learning. 879 teachers are selected using a stratified sampling method. The instrument is developed by the researcher following the CIPP evaluation model by Daniel Stufflebeam. The analysis is using a two-step approach involving measurement and structural model using structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis. Results of the study indicated that the proposed model was supported. Five inter-correlated constructs had good psychometric properties. Out of four constructs, two constructs loaded positively on motivation towards learning. In conclusion, good teachers will engage in improving their knowledge and skills and combat the challenges and hence, improving their practises to continually improve their students’ performance. The findings will give rise to further hypotheses.

MOTIVASI TERHADAP PEMBELAJARAN MURID: PENGARUH DIMENSI INPUT DAN PROSES DALAM PENTAKSIRAN BERASASKAN-SEKOLAH

Abstrak: Motivasi untuk belajar pelajar berasal dari di dalam diri individu itu sendiri yang merupakan faktor terpenting dalam menentukan kejayaan. Keperluan material dan peribadi, pengetahuan dan sikap guru dan juga cabaran yang dihadapi oleh guru berkait pentaksiran berasaskan-sekolah dianggap mempunyai pengaruh penting terhadap motivasi terhadap pembelajaran murid. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan dan menganalisis pengaruh semua faktor berkait pelaksanaan pentaksiran berasaskan-sekolah terhadap motivasi murid terhadap pembelajaran. 879 guru terlibat yang dipilih menggunakan kaedah pensampelan berstrata. Instrumen dibina oleh penyelidik sendiri mengikuti model penilaian CIPP oleh Daniel Stufflebeam. Analisis menggunakan pendekatan dua langkah yang melibatkan model pengukuran dan model struktur menggunakan analisis pemodelan persamaan berstruktur.

Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa model yang dicadangkan adalah disokong. Lima konstruk yang saling berkaitan mempunyai sifat psikometrik yang baik. Daripada empat konstruk, dua konstruk dimuat secara positif keatas motivasi terhadap pembelajaran. Secara konklusi, guru

yang baik akan meningkatkan ilmu pengetahuan dan kemahiran dan berjuang menghadapi kekangan dan seterusnya, meningkatkan amalan pengajaran untuk meningkatkan prestasi murid. Hasil kajian akan membina hipotesis lebih lanjut.
