Dear Editor-in-Chief,
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
We are writing to submit our manuscript entitled “What Do Dental Students Learn at School and Perform in the Field Regarding Deep Dentin Caries? ” for consideration for publication in the “Journal of Dentistry Indonesia”.
According to contemporary treatment concerning deep lesions in vital teeth, prioritizing the preservation of pulpal health over restoration success is strongly recommended to avoid potentially painful, costly, and invasive treatments.
Thus, minimally invasive treatment options have become more important. Most dentists worldwide are sceptical of the incomplete caries removal concept, despite the evidence-based results of the studies. Furthermore, it is not unexpected to observe that most of graduates of dental schools tend to perform what they have learned and experienced during their studies. However, it should be noted that dentists working in the field should update their practice through lifelong education. To the best of our knowledge, no published study has evaluated the educational philosophy of dental schools in terms of deep caries management and their reflections on the clinical practice in Turkey. This study evaluates the contemporary dental education in Turkey by investigating the opinions and preferences of dentists regarding the management of deep carious lesions and linking them with curriculums from dental schools. As our findings could be applied as scientific literature data, they are likely to be of great interest to the scientists, lecturers, researchers, clinicians, and students who read your journal on these topics “contemporary dental education, deep caries lesions treatment, selective or incomplete caries removal, preferences of dentists regarding management of deep caries, web-surveys”.
This manuscript describes novel work and is not under consideration for publication/published by any other journal.
All authors have approved the manuscript and this submission.
