Thank you to my gracious church family, Macedonia Baptist Church, for giving me the freedom and time to work on and complete my Ph.D. Thanks to my father, Warren Grigg, whose unceasing encouragement would never let me forget that I had to finish my Ph.D.
INTRODUCTION
The third goal of the project was to implement the small group sermon-based discipleship model. The fourth goal of the ministry project was to evaluate small groups based on preaching.
Would Do Differently

Sacrificial Love (Ephesians 5:25)
29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ the church, 30 because we are members of his body. Love her husbands as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, with a radical self-sacrificing love. The ultimate goal of the man is to make sure that she will appear blameless before God through Jesus Christ.
Danker and Walter Bauer, A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2000), 5. Abandon all leadership responsibilities. Husbands love your wives - how - "As Christ loved".
ESV) — 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a
ESV) — 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us
Thinking about how much God has forgiven you, even though Christ would make you think about how much you should forgive your wife/husband. That should make me say, I guess that's how you want me to love Krista; the standard for husbands to love their wives is the cross of Christ. 26 Things indicate that Jesus works, not ours as husbands; but when we love our wives as Christ loved the church.
Since divine love seeks to completely cleanse those who are loved from every form of sin and evil, a Christian husband should not be able to bear the thought of anything sinful in his wife's life that displeases God.
ESV) — 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
We need to examine our hearts and ask our fellow believers to help us see any area in our lives where we have been blind to the things of the world that have crept into our lives. Listen, the more dirt fills your ears and eyes, the easier it will be to say yes to it and the harder it will be to say no to it. You may not be able to keep up with all the trends and technology, but you should seek help from someone who does.
Illustration: Ancient Greek culture, a woman would go down into the river and wash herself, symbolizing that all the sin they had committed was done, and now she and her husband started anew. This blood is so effective that it pays for all of that person's past, present, and future sins.
- Husbands love your wives just as you do your own flesh
Loving your wife as Christ loved the church is a great testimony to the watching community. But honestly, over the past year I had come to believe that it wasn't possible for a man to love his wife more than I love you. 31 "Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."
32 This mystery is deep, and I say it refers to Christ and the church. 33 But let each of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
ESV) — 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh
- Leave and Cleave vs. 31
For a man not to love his wife who has become one flesh with him is not only to be a poor man, but also to be a dysfunctional Christian.” The Bible is calling us to love our wives as we love our own bodies. It is impossible for me to love him as I love myself without the enabling power of the Holy Spirit.
I've been trying for 20 years to love him and it just didn't work, I'm done, I'm done, (by the way, you're done and you're done with Jesus too) because the Bible teaches that you should love him as Christ loved the Church and as you do your own body ,. Hosea, the prophet of God, the woman Gomer, who was not only unfaithful, but also became a prostitute; yet he had to continue to love and forgive him which is a picture of what God does for us when we act like Gomer and prostitute ourselves with the sins of this world.
ESV) — 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband
- Immediately 2. Happy heart
Children, obey your parents in the Lord” children's obedience is not optional - it is a command, it is imperative in the present tense - which means command. Kids, how would you feel if every time you asked your parents for something, they would argue or worry about it. Children, you must obey the first time your parents ask you to do something and do it with pleasure.
Kids even when your parents tell you to go to bed while you're watching a show or playing a game. Now if you disobey 3 times before, don't expect your parents to say yes, you really don't have to.
ESV) — 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord
The weight behind the order (what does the weight mean? You know like when the principal tells you to do something..yeah that's the weight, or like when the police say stop, you better stop straight.) Weight After the order to t It is not the principal nor the police that obeys the parents, but none other than the Almighty God Himself.
ESV) — 5 Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ,
- You need to be thankful if you have parents who lay down the law for you to obey don’t be weary or ungrateful because love is why we do it
One important truth that God's law shows here in Exodus 21:15, 17 is that disrespecting your parents, if you want to show that you would do the unthinkable act of hitting or cursing them, the Bible "puts them to death ". Listen, God takes disobedience to your parents so seriously that He would put this sin on the list with other very serious sins. Listen, if you learn to try to push all the boundaries your parents set for you, what do you think you'll do to God.
You should be thankful if you have parents who dictate the law that you must obey. Don't be tired or ungrateful because love is why we do it. 2 "Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.".
ESV) — 3 Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am the L ORD your God
- There is great reward for Children that obey and honor their parents
ESV) — 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ
ESV) “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
- Failure to understand the difference in childhood irresponsibility vs. willful disobedience
- Failure to recognize that every time our kids fail to meet our expectations may not necessarily by sinful disobedience
Be consistent (I think this is related to raising children in the fear and discipline of the Lord.). Parents who refuse to raise their children in the teaching and discipline of the Lord. You don't put your children in the way of salvation and that is very, very terrible.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Our greatest desire in the universe is for our children to love and follow Jesus Christ.
ESV) — 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord
Eye service - rolling your eyes when your boss tells you to do something, what a complete disrespect. When you serve, when you work for your boss, you should do it as for the Lord and not for men. I would do it because I love him and think of all he has done for me.
Remember the movie Courageous when a Hispanic man is hired in a factory and asked to do something that is not right. We must obey what they tell us to do and do it with respect.
ESV) — 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might
If you do not face a battle against the world, you are either not a Christian or you are a believer who has fallen into sin (MacArthur 332). Paul experienced severe trials and opposition while he was in Ephesus, he mentioned this in his letter to the church in Corinth. 1 Corinthians 16:8-9 (ESV) — 8 But I will remain in Ephesus until Pentecost, 9 because a wide door for effective work has opened for me, and there are many adversaries. Attacks from outside and inside).
In Acts 20:29-30, Paul warned the elders in Ephesus that after he left, wolves would come from the outside and try to tear down what the Lord was doing and not only from the outside, but others would spring from it . inside the local church and try to lure the faithful away to follow them.
ESV) — 29 I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30 and from among your own selves will arise men

Follow him, and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house: 'The Teacher says: Where is my guest room, where I can eat the Passover with my disciples?' If someone says to you, 'Why are you doing this?' say, 'The Lord needs it and will send it back here immediately.'" And they went away and found a colt tied to a door outside in the street. , and they untied it. And some of those who stood by said to them, "What are you doing to loose the colt?" He does what he will with the powers of heaven and the nations of the earth. He knows the end of the story and he even knows the details along the way. We can rely on the sovereignty of God in suffering because of the suffering that the sovereign God has experienced.
What practical ways can you use mealtime to celebrate your salvation and the hope of the gospel. Is God's sovereign control over all things true only in the case of Jesus or in every case.
