The New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards seek
to
makea
substantial contribution to the ASEAN region's developmentby
providing opportunitiesfor
postgraduate sludy-
i.e. postgraduate diploma, master's and doctoral (PhD) degrees - in New Zealand.The New
Zealand-ASEANScholars Awards (NZ-AS) are part of the New Zealand's
official dovelopment assistanceto the
ASEAN region. The Ministryof
Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) ,delivers this scholarship scheme, through the New Zealand Aid Programme.
Under the NZ-AS Awards, up to 5C scholarships per year are available for lndonesian applicants from a total of 182 scholarships allocated to candidates from ASEAN countries. The scirolarships are for full tinre study at one of nine eligible NewZealand higher education institutions.

support o{ lndonesia's sustainable economic development, especially in the areas of agricultr-ire, renewable energy (particularly geothermal energy) and disaster risk management. Candidates should be ableio

lndonesiawho can
demonstrate leadership qualities and academic excellence from both the Government and private sectors (whichiricludes civil society groups,
universities, development-focusedorganisations and
charitable foundations).Additional priority will be given to applicants with the {ollowing backgrounds:
1. Geographic area: lndividuals from Eastern lndonesia (West Nusa Tenggara, Fast Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua and West Papua). Eastern lndonesia is a geographic area of focus in New Zealand's bilateral development programme in recognition ol the complexity of the develcpment challenges faced within these sub-regions compared to most other parts of the archipelago. The New Zealand Aid Programme has had a longstanding association with Eastern lndonesia and we believe it is irnportant to continue that commitment through developing human capitai needs so the sub-region can proqress and make the rnost o{ the opportunities that exist in these provinces for development.
