CHARACTER IN THE WIND RISES

1. Jiro Horikoshi is the protagonist in Hayao Miyazaki's film The Wind Rises. He was 42 years old on the film he is the main character of the movie, He is voiced by Hideaki Anno Personality: Jiro has a happy and good natured personality towards Naoko Satomi whom he loves very much, but he is also trustworthy and hardworking when it comes to his love for airplanes.
Fiction and Reality: So Jiro Horikoshi is based on real story. In general, the film character's professional career follows the career of real Jiro Horikoshi. Like the character of the film, the real Jiro Horikoshi also graduated from Tokyo Imperial University, specifically from Aviation Laboratory (Kōkū Kenkyūjo) within the Engineering Department.[2], and started his career in Mitsubishi Internal Combustion Engine Company Limited, later Mitsubishi Aircraft Company. One of his first works was Mitsubishi 1MF10, an experimental aircraft that never passed the prototype stage after some flight tests. Later, Horikoshi designed much more successful Mitsubishi A5M, which entered mass production in 1936.
2. Naoko Satomi is the deuteragonist of The Wind Rises. She becomes the wife of Jirō Horikoshi, she is voiced by Miori Takimoto
Naoko is a fictional character loosely based on main female characters from three Tatsuo Hori's novels. Naoko has a resemblance with Ayako Yano, first wife of Tatsuo Hori the author of The wind Rises Novel.
3. Kayo Horikoshi is the sister of Jiro Horikoshi
Personality: She praises her older brother to complain about him afterwards. It seems she is a harsh person, but she is caring at heart. She often visits her brother, because he is rarely seen at home. She quickly becomes friends with Naoko Satomi and she visits her frequently.
She likes to call people by her pet name. She calls her brother Nini (二兄)) and Naoko with Haru (春)).
Fiction and Reality: The film is based on Hayao Miyazaki's manga of the same name, that is based on Tatsuo's novel of the same name.

7. Giovanni Battista Caproni is a character of The Wind Rises film. He is a famous Italian airplane designer who inspires Jiro Horikoshi in his dreams to become also an airplane designer. He always called Jiro not by name but the "Japanese boy".
He is based on the real Italian aircraft designer of the same name, Giovanni Battista Caproni.

8. Hattori is a minor character appears in Hayao Miyazaki's film The Wind Rises. He is the design chief of Mitsubishi Aircraft Company, a company where Jiro Horikoshi work and he is voiced by Jun Kunimura
Fiction and Reality: Hattori is based on the real person, Joji Hattori, who was a senior engineer in Mitsubishi's aircraft design division in Nagoya. He supported the radical reverse-gullwing idea by the young engineer Jiro Horikoshi, which ultimately resulted in the successful A5M fighter design.
