CONDITIONAL SENTENCE

Understanding

Conditional sentences are defined as presupposition sentences or conditional sentences. This conditional sentence has two clauses, namely: main clause and if clause. The arrangement of these two clauses does not affect the meaning.

Contoh : if my husband is at home, I will not go alone sama dengan I will not go alone if my husband is at home.

The facts of this conditional sentence are in the form of cause and effect where the fact of the if clause is the cause and the fact of the main clause is the effect. This fact is also the opposite of presuppositional sentences, that is, if the presuppositional sentence is an affirmative sentence, then the fact is a negative sentence and vice versa (except for type 1).

Example

if he didn't agree, he would reject it (if he didn't agree, he would reject it).

In fact he agrees so he does not reject it (he agrees, so he doesn't reject it).

he does not reject it because he agrees (he does not reject it because he agrees).

B. Tipe Conditional Sentence a. Tipe I (future)

Basic formula :

This first type of conditional sentence refers to events in the future. The reality or facts of this statement are still in the form of possibilities that may or may not occur. Example If you study hard, you will post the exam. If you study hard, you will pass the exam. In fact, maybe it's sincere, maybe it's not depending on whether you study hard or not

Tipe II (present) Basic formula:

If simple past tense, past future tense

Type I conditional sentences are sentences that contradict the reality that is happening in the present.

Reality or facts in the form of Present Tense.

Example :

If you came, you would see my brother.

If you come, you will meet my brother.

Fact :

You don't see my brother because you don't come →fakta dalam bentuk present tense.

(2)

(You didn't meet my brother because you didn't come) occurs in the present moment c. Tipe III (past)

Basic formula :

If past perfect tense, past future perfect tense

Type III conditional sentences are sentences that contradict facts that occurred in the past. Reality or facts in the form of Past Tense

Example :

If she had been beautiful, you would have liked her. (If she's pretty, you'll love her).

Fact:

She was not beautiful, so you didn't like her fakta dalam bentuk past tense (She's not pretty, so you don't like her) → events in the past
