With this tangible expression of my philosophy in place, it is easier to unravel the implications of social studies for language learners. But ultimately, the most important aspect of social studies education is the promotion of historical thinking.
Language
Syntax amounts to word placement and ordering that conforms to the norms and rules of the given language. In this project, a lot of attention was paid to the development of the aforementioned linguistic components as they were displayed in my subject.
Culture
Since all eight of these students were immigrants or children of immigrants, their families had a personal stake in these events. Several families of these students had chosen to keep them out of school that day to participate in the demonstrations.
Planning, Implementing, and Managing Instruction
This included content objectives focused on analysis of possible violations and inferences about the effectiveness of the Bill of Rights. It was basically intended to act as a reference tool for completing the main task of the lesson.
Assessment
With a total of 12 out of 25, I found that my understanding of his Second Language Acquisition generally matched that provided by his ACCESS scores. Already having a good sense of his oral language, I needed to know more about his reading and writing.

So these repetitions seem to be due to her awareness of the listener and her desire to correct mistakes and clarify for his/her benefit. The results obtained from an analysis of Henrietta's academic writing add even more nuance to her semantic abilities in English. The lexical density of this writing sample (54.96%) is actually about one percent lower than that of the more informal piece. Henrietta's willingness to use more sophisticated vocabulary in her writing opens her up to some more mistakes. While "to speak out" usually means to express one's opposition, "to speak out" would be more appropriate in this context. However, it should be noted that her choice of words in this case is much more elaborate.
As already mentioned, the area most in need of semantic development is the richness and sophistication of Henrietta's vocabulary, especially in her informal speaking and writing. Henrietta also has a strong handle on the aspect of word knowledge referred to as polysemy (Lecture, October 2016), as shown by her use of figurative language in her informal writing. Assessment of the Learner’s Current Stage of Second Language Acquisition: Henrietta is currently at High Intermediate Fluency, or Level 4, of language acquisition in terms of her
To further assess Henrietta's current stage of second language acquisition, her speech has been analyzed and scored using the five components of the Student Oral Language Observational Matrix (SOLOM). Henrietta's fluency has been rated as a 4 as he still has occasional lapses as he searches for the correct way to express himself. Henrietta's pronunciation has been characterized as a 4, as her difficulties do not require heightened concentration on the part of the listener, but a certain accent is always noticeable.
Henrietta's grammar is also rated a 4, because her grammar/word order errors almost never cloud her meaning. The SLA theoretical framework that was most useful for assessing Henrietta's current language skills is a sociocultural framework. Currently, Henrietta's investment is even higher, because higher English proficiency increases the likelihood that she will complete her degree and secure a job.
Specific Instructional Plan for this Learner: Organization: The instructional
In high school and college, English was a type of cultural capital that gave her access to an activity/practice that was of great interest to her. Henrietta must write the word and her own definition on one side of the card. Her professor(s) should write his/her definition and a list of common synonyms on the other side.
Grammar: My first recommendation for improving Henrietta's grammar is practice with sentence shortening (Peregoy & Boyle, 2008), as several of her errors stem from the addition of unnecessary morphological or syntactic features. Encouraging her to focus on brevity will help her improve the overall grammaticality of her language. I would also recommend using a list of linking devices, almost in a way similar to that of a thesaurus, to reduce repetition and expand the types of devices she uses.

Students will read their scenario individually and then fill in the corresponding row of the graphic organizer with the appropriate amendment, a determination of whether a violation has occurred, and their reasoning. The judge says it is not necessary as the amount of the repairs is so small.
Cultural and Linguistic Background
There seems to be no support for English at home and he comes from a linguistic and ethnic group that is not alone. While his teacher expressed his belief that his family's culture emphasizes team success, he also noted that Torvald's father highly values his education and understands that individuality can sometimes take precedence. Torvaldo's sociolinguistic development isn't overly alarming, but he doesn't have much academic language in either of his languages.
However, Torvald's teacher discouraged his classmates from using Spanish in the classroom because it was typically used in disrespectful or offensive ways. In terms of academics, I again believe that the school's EL coach is very competent and understands interlanguage dynamics, but it is not clear that his teacher fully considers this. Torvald's teachers and other staff members are knowledgeable about community resources, but I did not see them in service.
State and Federal Assessment Requirements
Sociocultural Environment: Finally, I completed the Sociocultural Environment section (see Appendix C) to understand the impact the school environment might have on him. The dimension of the family is one in which the school and this teacher in particular excel. All new students entering the school district must complete a Home Language Survey (see Appendix D) by their parents.
If the answers to any of the first three questions about the child's first language learned to speak, language spoken outside school, and language spoken at home indicate a language other than English, the student is directed to an International Student Registration Center. (ISRC) page for full registration and evaluation. If the student is rated as "fluent," he/she is considered ineligible for EL services and referred to the Enrollment Center. According to Tennessee State, "it's a way to assess what our students know and what we can do to help them succeed in the future."
Stage of Second Language Acquisition
The report makes six specific claims in arguing for the reliability and validity of the test. While his comprehension skills are slightly stronger than some of his other skills, his teacher has noted that Torvald struggles to retain many of the reading strategies he is given. His first incorrect reading of the word is copied a second time, but on the third run, he produces another word.
Writing: To analyze Torvald's writing, I chose to use some of the work he and his classmates had done in a digital format. First, most of the writing assignments I had observed Torvald complete were journal entries, exit tickets, or short answers. One of the first standardized tests ELLs take is actually meant for their parents. One of the other writing practices that I became very interested in this semester is dialogue journals. Fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar are four of the productive skills to monitor.
This would give me an invaluable appreciation of the cultural skills and language practices with which my students engage. In the field of education, immigrant languages were neglected and undermined, as was the preservation of the English-speaking, Protestant, Anglo-Saxon. Models like these often date back to early versions of the Bilingual Education Act and still do in today's English-only states.
