The Effect of Binding Types on the Biomass Briquette Calorific Value from Cow Manure as a Solid Energy Source
(Conference Paper) (Open Access), ,
Physics Department, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University, Semarang, Indonesia
Abstract
Biomass briquettes have been made as an alternative energy source from cow dung waste. Molasses and starch were used as binder material with a carbonization temperature of 400 °C for 2 hours. The work aims to produce biomass briquettes with the best heating value based on analysis of composition effect and type of binder on the briquette with calorific value . The heat test results showed that briquettes with 10% sugar cane
binding content produced the highest calorific value of 3907.5 calories/gram. Sugar cane drops become the better binder than starch in biomass briquettes production. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2019.

Trace metals and metalloids are a common and persistent form of riverine (river) contamination and are derived from a wide variety of sources, including mining and milling operations, industrial activities, urban runo , agricultural chemicals, and atmospheric pollution, among a host of others. Documentation of trace metal sources and dispersal pathways in riverine ecosystems is essential to mitigate their potentially harmful e ects to human and ecosystem health and is often required from a legal (environmental forensic) perspective to assess liability for the costs of remediation.
Unfortunately, documenting the sources and source contributions of trace metals in rivers has proven di cult, time-intensive, and costly. Herein, a four-component, interdisciplinary framework is proposed to e ciently identify the sources and source contributions of trace metals in alluvial sediments where multiple natural and/or anthropogenic sources exist. The components include (1) the analysis of the river’s alluvial stratigraphic architecture and geomorphic history, (2) the temporal correlation of geochemically characterized alluvial deposits to potential anthropogenic trace metal sources, (3) the analysis of the spatial variations in selected geochemical parameters, and (4) the use of geochemical and/or isotopic tracers to quantitatively estimate the contributions of trace metals from the de ned natural and anthropogenic sources. The four components are not intended to be exhaustive; the framework may require modi cation following multiple lines of evidence approach, in which additional methods and data are added to the investigation until there is con dence that all trace metal sources and their contributions have been e ectively de ned.

Abstract
Green campus is a concept, which integrates environmental science into policy, management and activities of the college. Green campus is also the implementation of the integration of environmental science in all aspects of management and sustainable development practices. Therefore, the standards for referral and encouragement to management in developing a green campus program are needed, one of which is UI GreenMetric. The purpose of this study are to determine how the program of UI GreenMetric is implemented at Diponegoro University and to provide recommendations in the category or indicator that has not been ful lled. Optimizing the implementation of UI GreenMetric can be used as a further reference in the development of green campus concept in Indonesia. This study uses data in the form of a literature study of standards and guidelines used by UI GreenMetric which are considered in accordance with the strategy of increasing e ectiveness in implementing green campus.
The results showed the value obtained by Diponegoro University in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings standards.

Abstract
Agriculture and related industries form the backbone of many Asian economies. Not only do they provide food, but they are increasingly proving to be a reliable local source of energy and materials. Biofuels from palm oil and sugarcane are prominent examples where the palm and sugar mills serve as biore neries – providing food, fuels as well as materials. Nevertheless, there are also associated environmental impacts which need to be considered along with economic considerations. A life cycle approach is useful for both environmental as well as economic assessment. In particular eco-e ciency, a tool combining both environmental and economic aspects is very useful to analyze biore nery con gurations and look at the trade-o s between the environmental and economic aspects. The increase of value-added products from the biore neries may lead to increased economic bene ts but also increased environmental emissions. Indicators such as eco- e ciency show the relative advantages of the enhanced biore nery system as compared to conventional food or biofuel production systems. Thus, they provide important information to decision-makers both for industry and policy.
